Yes folks, dissention is rife within the Clan of Bush! Seems that He Who Won With Minority wants to open federal waters off the beaches of Florida to petroleum drilling. Little Brother Jed (aka Guvnah of Florida)- who better be against drilling if he wants to be re-elected because everybody else in The Sunshine State is - has weighed in on the no-drilling side. Whatsay we just put 'em in a wrasslin' ring on national TV and let Governor Jesse "The Body" Ventura of Minnesota referee.

BTW, I just realized that the thread name here might be misinterpretted as saying that Dub and Jed are buttheads. That is not my intention, though it may be the truth.

I must say that I JUST ordered a bumpersticker that says "It ain't over till your brother counts the votes." I guess Baby Bush didn't learn that lesson about not biting the hand that feeds ya!

If most people in Florida don't want the area to be opened up for oil drilling, how come the government up in Washington has the authority to overule their wishes?

That funny looking bloke living in the White House was the candidate who kept on about cutting Washington down to size and so forth, wasn't he?

Jesse "The Body" Ventura could run rings around BOTH Bush brothers in a battle of wits. He is a very eloquent and amazingly well-read man.

I used to make fun of him until I actually heard him in a radio interview. He was asked some rather harsh on-the-spot sorts of questions, and had something intelligent and topical to say for all of them.

I was very impressed.

I was also surprised Alex. He is both knowledgable and straightforward. On the other side of that coin, when he says that religeon is for weak minded people, that was a bit overboard.You certainly cant be a Navy Seal if you dont have both oars in the water.

I agree with you Alex and Kendall. Gov. Jesse has impressed me tremendously when I've seen him on the tube. He really DOES act like someone who doesn't care if he's re-elected. He actually tells the truth. His comments about religious and fat folks was insensitive....but he told the truth as he saw it. He's got my vote. (If I was American and he was running!)

Please rest assured that my referring to Jeb as "Jed" was purely a typo. As a native Floridian I actually do know his name. I just don't type worth a shit. And I'm going too blind to proofread worth a shit anymore.

Anyway, I just learned this morning that the oil leases in question are, in fact, not off the coast of Florida, but further to the West. However, the western boundary is only thirty miles from Perdido Key, the westernmost coastal town in Florida. So, you can bet the Feds are going to say the whole issue is only of concern to Floridians if the wind is blowing from the wrong direction! Hell I might have to go to Panama City Beach someday and help remove crude oil from (female) Spring-Breakers. If this gets serious and Guvnah Jeb sticks to his guns, I might actually learn to like the guy.

I usually stay clear of threads on US politics about which I know less than most BUT....if GW's hard line on environmental issues leads to the rise in sea levels people predict, Florida will be one of the first areas to suffer. Irony or what?
