Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Newark on Trent From: Geoff the Duck Date: 22 Apr 01 - 03:59 PM Probably because if it was posted to this thread EVERYONE who visits the site would know. It's a lot quicker and simpler if you are actually online at the Mudcat than using another phone call to someone who 1) Might not be in. 2) Could be online and therefore their phone might be engaged. |
Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Newark on Trent From: GUEST,Race Potently Date: 23 Apr 01 - 02:04 PM You took the words right out of my keyboard, Mr Duck. I could have telephoned Pete 01636 683539 or emailed newark.folk@ntlworld.com but it's cheaper and easier to ask in the thread. Mind you, I haven't had an answer yet. Who are "Jack in the Green". And who's going to this new club on 2nd May? Regards - Race |
Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Newark on Trent From: Egmond Date: 23 Apr 01 - 04:40 PM Jack in the Green are a three piece folk band from Market Rasen. Consisting of a guitarist/singer, fiddler, and an african drum player. They say their music is affro-irish. I have heard the guitarist/singer many years ago at Louth folk club and from what I remember he and therefore they will be worth seeing. Look forward to seeing at Newark on the 2nd. |

Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Newark on Trent From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 27 Apr 01 - 09:16 AM Anyone remember Newark folk club when it was at the Rutland Arms in the sixties? There was an excellent resident singer, John Kirk, who is still in the Newark area I believe. I'm still occasionally in touch with Roy Barker who was the club's secretary. Wednesdays are terrible for me, but I'll have to get to the Vine to find out what's changed. |
