I would point out, however, that the reason we have things like an Institute for Black Studies and a Department of Women's Affairs, and don't have corresponding constructs for white studies and men's affairs, is that historically whites have been well studied and men's affairs well tended to, usually with the exclusion of blacks, women, etc. from consideration. The idea isn't that whites and males are being overlooked now, but that non-whites and females have been overlooked for centuries. |
