Here's the chords for "I Dream of Jeannie" the way I play it. If you'd like the sheet music, e-mail me off list. Nathan

(Em)Borne, like a (C)va-(C7)por, (G)on the summer (D7)air.
I(G)see her (C)tripping (Am) where the (G)bright (D)streams (Em)play.
(A)Happy as the (D7)dai-(Em)sies that (A7)dance on her (G)way.
(D7)Many were the wild nights her (G)merry voice would pour
(C)Many were the (Bm)blithe birds that (Em)warbled them (D7)o'er;
Oh! (C)I (G)dream of (C)Jeanie with the (G)light (D7)brown (Em)hair.
(G)FLoating (Em)like a (C)vapor, (A7)on the (G)soft (D7)summer (G)air.

Also known as I Dream Of Jeannie With The Light Brown Hair. This was used in the sitcom with the same name. Attributed to a be a trad song, but written by Stephen Foster.

I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Borne, like a vapor, on the summer air;
I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour.
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er:
Oh! I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.

I long for Jeanie with the daydawn smile,
Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile;
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by,
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die:—
Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,—
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again:
Oh! I long for Jeanie, and my heart bows low,
Never more to find her where the bright waters flow.

I sigh for Jeanie, but her light form strayed
Far from the fond hearts round her native glade;
Her smiles have vanished and her sweet songs flown,
Flitting like the dreams that have cheered us and gone.
Now the nodding wild flowers may wither on the shore
While her gentle fingers will cull them no more:
Oh! I sigh for Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.

Peerlessly sung by Count John McCormack in 1934 (it's on YouTube). I was brought up with that...

I heard the Alasdair Gillies version, but he changed a few words.

I agree with Steve about the recording by Papal Count John McCormack (1884-1945). Seems strange that an Irish tenor should have the definitive recording of a song by Stephen C. Foster of Pittsburgh (1826-1864), but McCormack became a naturalized American citizen before returning to live in Ireland.

I've oft told the tale of my great grandad and John McCormack's dad having a fist fight over the factory foreman's job in Athlone. We lost.

I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Borne, like a breeze on the summer air;
I see her walking where the bright waters play,
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
Many were the wild notes her sweet voice would sing.
Many were the songbirds that warbled them on the way
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a breeze, on the soft summer air.

I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair
And I long awhile ????
Filled with the gladness, of her winning smile;
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by,
Pulling at my heart like fond hopes that die
Sighing like the night wind and crying like the rain,—
Waiing for the long one that comes not again:
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a breeze, on the soft summer air.

Your grand dad was in good company there , Steve James .James Joyce lost a singing competition to John McCormack .
Given Foster's Ulster-Scots background ,I wonder if he might have taken   the start of the chorus from McPherson's Lament ?
To my ear "I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair " seems very close to "He played a tune and he danced aroon' "
