Subject: Jack Lawrence From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 29 Apr 01 - 11:14 PM Someone showed me a video called "Doc's Guitar" (which I recommend if you are a guitar or a Doc Watson fan.) He is accompanied by a guitarist named Jack Lawrence who seems to me to be a really first class guitarist. Can someone give me a brief biography of him. Does he play in any group? Has he done any solo work? Thanks, Murray |
Subject: RE: Jack Lawrence From: bigchuck Date: 30 Apr 01 - 07:19 AM Not too sure of the biography, but Jack has been accompanying Doc since Merle died, and I think somewhat before, at times when Merle needed time off. At this point, I believe that he and Doc are pretty much equal partners in the enterprize. Jack has been an instrument repairman and was involved with MacIntyre pickups for a while as well. He has a great solo CD out. Jack is a great guy to share a beer and conversation with, and would probably be more widely known in his own right if he had not been with Doc for so long. He is a pretty good singer as well as a great guitarist. Midchuck may chime in here, since he just bought Jack's 93 Collings. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Jack Lawrence From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 03 May 01 - 02:46 PM Thanks for the info Peter and Sandy. The site Peter sent me to has a lot of info that I wanted, including the name of a CD. He is a first class player in his own right as far as I am concerned
Do either of you (or anyone else) know what kind of guitar he is playing in the video. It looks fairly old and it sounds very good. Murray |

Subject: RE: Jack Lawrence From: GUEST,Midchuck upstairs Date: 04 May 01 - 08:05 AM Murray, I think the Lawrence recording is self-produced. the label is entitled "G-run records." I suspect the corporate headquarters is Jack's house. Here is the quickest place to get it. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll PM you Jack's e-mail address. Peter. |
