This is a cool place. I have had friends who were part-time 'Cat visitors and I have heard lots and lots of good stuff about this place. I play the guitar, the harmonica, the mandolin and a little banjo. I dabble in Native American flute music and tin whistle tunes. *My REAL area of expertise, however, is in Kazooing. I am a Kazooist of the first order and I love to add the smooth sound of my 'zoo to any serious, academic folk gathering I can find/crash.*

Seriously, I love folk music. From the commercial to the absolutely never ever heard of them before guys, folk has been the answer to many lonely nights as a chubby kid with no one to hang out with. Folk actually saved me from losing my identity and simply becoming a faceless member of the rat race. I have kept in touch with myself and with God and with my fellow man simply by allowing home-made music to be one of my greatest joys. I hope I can share that joy with you all.

May The Road Rise To Meet You,

Stevangelist

Hi Stevangelist,

Welcome to the Mudcat. When I joined a little over a year ago, there was no such thing as the FAQ. Now I can heartily recommend it as a body of knowledge that would otherwise take you a year to get otherwise! Please let me know if I can help with anything around here. And remember-- when the occasional spat comes up around here-- how you felt when you first arrived. Keep your eye on the higher sides of Mudcat and you cannot go wrong.

If you are ever in North Central PA, bring that kazoo over. We need a good kazoo player for our Saturday Night Service.

~S~

Welcome Stevangelist. You and Geoff the Duck have kazoos in common. He does an excellent duet with himself of duelling banjos on kazoo and banjo!

howdy hi! there's a little of everything around here. As wysiwyg said, the FAQ is a good place to start. It'll show you a lot about searching, clickies, etc if you don't know about them already.

Welcome, Stevangelist--

Always glad to hear from a Kazooist; the world has too few. Jesse Lone Cat Fuller is my beau ideal on that department. Have fun on Mudcat & look out for the occasional spoor. Speaking of kazoo, anybody around here play the spoons??

Gosh! My uncle taught me how to play the spoons once when I was about eight. I'd forgotten all about that. He used real spoons from the kitchen drawer. But sometimes he's pull a pair of polished bones out of a leather case, and play along with my "da"'s harmonica, as they both sang the "old country" songs.

Lord, you could cut the nostalgia with a knife!

I'd forgotten all about the "bones"! I wonder if I can still do it? (I doubt it)

Hiya Stevangelist - nice handle. Welcome to a strange place indeed....

You need to ask Geoff the Duck about kazoos as well. Only bloke I know to play dueling banjoes by himself on banjo and kazoo!

Oh goody! Someone new! I hope you like it here and that's a cool name, Stevangelist, though long to type. (I cut and pasted it) Where in this very big(small) world do you reside. I have a reason for asking. One more for a gathering in New Jersey I hope or over to Whizzy Wigs.

Well, welcome and have a good time.

Love, annamill (I always sign like that)

Welcome, welcome, every guest,
Welcome to our music feast:
Music is our only cheer,
Fill both soul and ravished ear;
Sacred Nine, teach us the mood.
Sweetest notes to be explored.
Softly wells the trembling air,
To complete our concert fair.

(Music is here.)

Aloha, and welcome to the 'Cat
Mark

They are here though, so stick around and take what you find, contribute when you can, and enjoy yourself. We're glad you're here.

Welcome to the party! If you're in eastern North America, you should visit the kazoo factory and museum in Eden, New York (near Niagara Falls and Buffalo). There website is http://www.kazooco.com/index.htm. Sorry, I haven't learned how to make a blue clicky thing yet, but perhaps some kind soul will transform the address into a link.

***THIS MESSAGE MAY ALSO BE FOUND IN THE HE'S GONE THREAD***

Wow...

I never knew that in order to have had a change in your life, you had to spell it out for everyone. I also never knew that asking if anyone had a cheap guitar to sell amounted to being a first-class a-hole. That's what I feel as though I have been treated like. I can't simply come in and forget the old person I used to be; it seems I have to hang him out as a reminder to all that I once thought too highly of myself. I guess I'm not allowed to have any experiences that are too personal to share here. Thank you, WYSIWYG, for your oh, so warm "welcome".

May The Road Rise To Meet You,

Stevangelist

welcome welcome welcome! (i'm not sure if i'm officially authorised to say this, since i'm really only here because i'm trying to bother my dad-Willie-O...or william darling if you want to piss him off-but i said it anyways, so there you go)

Guess I'm missing something too, so what happened back then.... in your own words Steve? I checked your previous posts to see if I could get a clue, and found this.

"Looking for places where a fat guy with guitar and harmonicas and lots of songs about love and God and peace and family and folky stuff can go and play and not get judged, as happened, sadly, at many other so-called "open" mic nights. Any suggestions? Comments?"

What on earth did you do to get judged so often? You weren't playing in the nude were you?
