Subject: Lyr Add: HARVEST OF THE MOON^^^

HARVEST OF THE MOON

Oh, the husbands and their wives, we were dancing for our lives,
All to the tune of Elsie Marley,
Instead of gathering up our differences and throwing them in the air,
And giving 'em to the wind that shakes the barley.

And the children they were watching, every girl and every boy,
As we dance to the tune of Elsie Marley,
But they'd heard another tune from the Harvest of the Moon,
That rides upon the wind that shakes the barley.

Then Bridgit, she declared that she was not prepared
to watch us dance to the tune of Elsie Marley,
She said, "I'll sing you all a song, And you'll want to sing along,
If you'll listen to the wind that shakes the barley."

And the song that she sang could be heard for miles around,
The air was filled with harmony,
You should have heard the sound,
As we gathered up our differences and threw them in the air,
And gave them to the wind that shakes the barley.

Oh, the husbands and their wives, we were dancing for our lives,
All to the tune of Elsie Marley,
Until we gathered up our differences and threw them in the air,
And gave them to the wind that shakes the barley.

Then all of us declared that we were not prepared
To dance our lives away to Elsie Marley,
For we heard another tune to the Harvest of the Moon
That rides along the wind that shakes the barley.

And the song that we sang could be heard for miles around,
The air was filled with harmony,
You should have heard the sound,
As we gathered up our differences and threw them in the air,
And gave them to the wind that shakes the barley.

I have the Steeleye Span cd, "The Journey" which has a song entitled "Harvest of the Moon" which has the line:
As we gathered up our differences and threw them in the air,
And gave them to the wind that shakes the barley".

I will need to give it a bit more of a listen and will try to transcribe the lyrics for you.

from another thread with a non-catchy title:

request from: GUEST,martha Date: 07-May-01 - 02:36 PM Shop: Voices

Skivee told me about his discussion group. Since Sept. 2000 i have been seeking the name of a song i heard played once on the radio in the Wash, DC area: the Traditions show, by Mary Cliff. She kept no playlist, can't help me. Can you? Beautiful ballad-type song. Male & female voices i think, not sure. Not sure about instruments either. A repeating(?) line: "we will throw our troubles into the air and the wind will blow them all away like barley in the wind." Mary Cliff mentioned both Battlefield Band and Steeleye Span, but i don't think so. would be so grateful to anyone with any info on this. the song played at 10:30 PM EST on Saturday night 9/16/2000. thanks!
