Subject: Whitby Folk Week - 2001
From: Steveie1

Hi I,m Steve. Every year I work on the No.2 Campsite at Whitby Folk Week. This year there will be some changes. As a newcomer to The Cafe, I would like know if anyone else is going and would like to meet up even play a session or two. Also we could keep up to date on any changes etc.

Actually there'll be loads of us there. Last year we had a special Mudcat meetup session. Perhaps we will again this year - anybody know?

The first weekend of Whitby also coincides with Regatta. The place and pubs will be packed to the gunwales. Accomodation, always in short supply, will be at a premium even more than usual. I am of a mind to find a haunt outside Whitby for either Sunday or Monday, the Moon and Sixpenpence at Glaisdale comes to mind as a possible venue. The landlord is sure to make us welcome. I be grateful of any imput. Damm there's no spellchecker or grammer check on this thingggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first weekend of Folk Week also coincides with Hull Shanty Festival, Nick. We're probably going up to Whitby on the Monday.

Dorrie, The last night of Whitby is NOT to be missed, I am not eloquent enough to describe the friendship, comradeship, love, emotion, rare, raw and pure, that pervades the atmosphere. I am not a dancer, nor someone who normally attends Cleididhs, butI would not miss the last night at Whitby for all the tea in China. Does that give you some indication of the night Hope to see all there

Whitby is a brill festival. I will be going for the 20th consecutive time this year, and my husband will be notching up his 27th appearance. Our girls aged 16 and nearly 15 have been every year of their lives, and will be seeing the same friends they have grown up with. The lastnight is magic, and I would'nt miss it for the world. hope to see lots of 'catters there like last year.

I'm feeling homesick. Never made Whitby Festival but I love the town. Steveie1, threads like this do not require the BS prefix.

I paid for the cottage last week and put the deposit down for 2002. Hence I am now broke, but hey - it's Whitby!

See you all there

Willa, Thanks for the web addresses, I miss Hull loads and try to get home as much as possible 2/3 times a year. Will try to co-incide with any events in future. Whitby is never missed even with the extra 200 miles.

The mayhem all starts on Saturday 18th August, and carries on until Friday August 24th - well the early hours of Sat 25th to be strictly accurate - and every minute is great!

If your thinking of camping the nearest site is Stoupes Cross, just past the abbey, by lunchtime on friday it is normally packed. For the past few years I've gone up on the Thursady night just to ensure I can get on. There's normally some music in town.

Camping might be a problem this year. The site I look after at Stakesby School is not available this year. Malcolm is trying to get another one so you will need to keep in touch if you are thinking of using the festival sites. The Main Site (for season ticket holders) is still available and so is the performers site at the Community College.

Mandomad and I will be in the 30 ft trailer as usual for the best 8 day party in the world and we hope to be seeing all our friends and Mudcatters there. Thanks to everyone who set up the Yorkshire gathering, we had a great Saturday night at the Jug and enjoyed seeing you all plus meeting some new friends. Oops - here I go harping on again.
