This song was mentioned in the Funny I.R.A. songs thread. I didn't want to bury it there in the middle of a discussion. I know it from an LP of the 'Barleycorn' (more famous for: Men behind the wire), musically the worst LP I ever bought. The song however is funny without being too rude (politically or else), in my eyes. I guess it has been written in the early 1970s. I don't recognise the tune.

I remember the song being written by Belfast singer Dave Scott in the late 60s and being performed in the Walnut Folk Club in Belfast. The tune used is indeed Football Crazy.

Wolfgang...I'm so glad to hear your opinion on that particular Barleycorn album...isn't it dreadful? There is a very hard to find album called "the Barleycorn in America" were they rerecorded many of the same songs from that album at the Embankment...it's much, much better. But I don't think "Rubber Bullets" is on it. I believe the original version was by the "Men of No Property". I know there are other versions, but those are the only 2 I have.

I have the Barleycorn 'Live at the Embankment' LP Release Records DRL 2004. 'Rubber Bullets' is the first track on side two and is attributed to 'D. Scott', as referred to by Winger above.
