Subject: Folk venue directory
From: blt

I've searched the forum to see if there's a thread listing folk venues. There are threads relating to specific states/cities/countries, but no general on-going list, that I could find. Is this something worth creating and maintaining? Does it actually exist and I simply haven't located it yet? What I have in mind is a directory of sorts of venues folks have played at, with contact info and maybe a brief description.

I think this might be well worth doing. Only point I'd make, though, is that venues may appear and disappear with changes of management, so it could be something that would need management and updating..

Cheers

SD

In the US, see www.mojam.com

I think that's right. If not there is a link to it in the Seamus Kennedy thread now running.

No not at all. I was just seeing if there would be a more positive response if question was put in a different way. It seems a few people are intersted in this its maybe just a question of getting the right people together, your private message to me reminded me of this subject. I promise you I WAS NOT winding you up, if I was I would at least try to pick something funny.john

I think it's a good Idea.

It involves some thought with regard to updating, but would nonetheless be useful to most of us I'm sure.

There was another thread addressing this recently--does anyone remember what it was? That thread had more detail on the technical aspects of creating and maintaining a venue directory (which I don't know anything about, I can barely manage to write things down on a wall calendar).

I love the mudcat but find it difficult to negotiate , A Yahoo group could have a databse, or several by area? all could post/edit/delete?

MOJAM ALREADY DOES THIS and has forms preloaded to look up anything entered. Including people to jam with in your area.

It is international and only needs us to load it up with listings. Performers would benefit too, by being better able to find venues. Seamus Kennedy and Anne Hills are listed with Mojam. I bet other Folk are too. And there are folk venues listed there, though not enough yet.

Why are we inventing a big wheel someone else has already invented, when we are already short on resources and volunteer power?
