Subject: Where to find a washboard in NY From: GUEST,Djh Date: 21 May 01 - 03:40 PM The GE Whirlpool seems to have made the old washboard obsolete. Where can I find one to misuse musically in NY Tristate area. I tried playing the washer at the laundry mat, didn't really have the same effect, and I nearly broke my arm in the spin cycle too. |
Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: MMario Date: 21 May 01 - 03:47 PM try an Agway. otherwise, probably mail order |
Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: Sorcha Date: 21 May 01 - 04:13 PM Try antique stores. Even out here in Wyoland (where some people actually do still use them for laundry) they aren't cheap---$15 min. for a small one. |
Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: Hollowfox Date: 21 May 01 - 05:06 PM I can buy them in Ohio, either at a Ben Franklin (five-&-ten type store) or a hardware store (a real one, not a Home Depot warehouse-type place). These are new, with metal, not glass scrub-boards. I know that nice, old hardware store in Downtown Schenectady closed a few years ago, but there must be some place that took up the slack. If you can't find one, and you're going to Old Songs, contact me there and maybe we can work something out. |
Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: Eluned Date: 21 May 01 - 05:49 PM Have you tried looking up one in the Whole Earth Catalog? I hear they're online now. And how about advertisements for old-fashioned country-living products in that magazine, Mother Earth News? Tracy/Eluned |
Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: Eluned Date: 21 May 01 - 06:21 PM Hmmm .... seems I was wrong about the Whole Earth Catalog having a website. However, and I think it's the Millenium Whole Earth Catalog now, most libraries will have it in their reference section, and if not, there is always inter-library loan. Next time I'm in the library I'll try to remember to look up washboards, in the NY tri-state area if possible.... Tracy/Eluned |

Subject: RE: Help: Where to find a washboard in NY From: dr soul Date: 21 May 01 - 11:47 PM A buddy of mine had a metal shop make him one, featuring handy curved over-the-shoulder washboard holders. Full width "ribs", very nice instrument! Check out a local machine or welding shop, or maybe see if a high school metal shop teacher can get one of her star pupils to make you one as a project. |
