Subject: We're waiting for the film to come

Can anyone help me with the words to this risque song of the 60's UK folk scene.

The only verses I remember are:

The Kama Sutra - we did just what they said
Every time we tried it we both fell out of bed

Imagine people doing it standing on their head
And we're waiting for the film to come.

Lady Chatterley - what a lovely love affair

Here's a forget-me-not, let me tie it in your hair.

I didn't learn a single word I didn't know already there

And We're waiting for the film to come.

The Perfumed garden was no good to me 'Cos I can only count from one to three .............................And so on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Bugsy

Honestly sounds like a variant on "Old Time Religion". Not familiar with it, but it sounds good!

Subject: Lyr Add: WAITING FOR THE FILM TO COME (Eric Idle)
From: IanC
Date: 22 May 01 - 05:19 AM

Sorry, I could only find this - more recent - version by Eric Idle.

WAITING FOR THE FILM TO COME

The Book of the Month, The Book of the Year,
The Book of the Day will soon be here.
Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall,
The books keep coming and I buy them all.

But I'm waiting for the film to come...

'Memoirs of a Geisha', everybody's heard of it,
I bought that, and read about a third of it,
I must confess, I didn't get a word of it,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

I'm waiting for the film,
I'm waiting for the film,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

'Angela's Ashes', I tried hard to begin it,
It's so wonderfully Irish I cried every minute,
I guess we should be grateful there's no River-Dancing in it,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

The latest Jackie Collins, I'm not a man to grovel,
Sex, sex everywhere, from a palace to a hovel,
In fact it's so darn sexy it's a thirteen Kleenex novel,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

I'm waiting for the film,
I'm waiting for the film,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

Monica Lewinsky, the tubby White House Venus,
Has finally spilled her memoirs of the Presidential penis,
The dress was the only thing not taken to the cleaners,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

'Eyes Wide Shut', I'm really not a prude,
I like Nicole Kidman, especially in the nude,
I didn't understand it, and if I may be rude,
I'm waiting for the *book* to come.

I'm waiting for the book,
I'm waiting for the book,
I'm waiting for the book to come.

(NOTE: This is a new song by Eric Idle and was first aired on the Craig Kilborn show in the United States on October 6th, 1999.

Cheers!
Ian

The song was written by Sidney Carter (Lord of the Dance) and appeared on an LP called 'Putting Out the Dustbin' (Transatlantic TRA 106) in 1962, which featured the singing of him and of Sheila Hancock the actress. I'll try and copy the words later.

Thank you IanC. I don't think that the tune to this would be the same as the one I know, as it scans differently. It's a good one though.

GUEST,bigJ, that would be great if you could post the words. I'd be much obliged.

WAITING FOR THE FILM TO COME. Sydney Carter.

From the 1962 LP 'Putting Out The Dustbin' (Transatlantic TRA 106) where it says:- 'None of the songs on this record have ever been in revue (except Waiting for the Film to Come, and that only in America)'.............'Sydney is presently occupied part-time with the National Book League, trying to think up ways of making people read more books.

Good literature, I think a lot of it,
Look at my bookshelf, see how much I've got of it,
But when it comes to reading I can only take a spot of it,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

Doctor Zhivago, everybody's heard of it,
I bought that and read about a third of it,
I must admit I didn't get a word of it,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

Got Lolita, well you had to do it,
Started well but couldn't stagger through it,
A little bit of sugar on an awful lot of suet,
I'm waiting for the film to come. ,

Lawrence Durell, or do you say Dur-elle,
Wrote four novels and wrote them very well,
But which is which I'm damned if I can tell,,
I'm waiting for the film to come. ,

Faber & Faber have a lot to crow about ,
In T.S. Elliot whose poetry you'll know about,
That'll be a cast to make a movie show about,
I'm waiting for the film to come. ,

Want to be a hipster then you'd better have a whack,
At reading a book by a cat named Kerouac,
I tried hard but, honestly, I'm sorry Jack,
I'm waiting for the film to come. ,

Lady Chatterley, what a pretty love affair,
Here's a forget-me-not, let me put it in your hair,
Couldn't find a single word I didn't know already there,
I'm waiting for the film to come.

I'm waiting for the film to come.
