Subject: Dillards Lyrics From: Brian Date: 07 Dec 97 - 07:56 PM I have been looking for the name of, and the lyrics to, a song performed by the Dillards. Some of the lyrics I remember are these: "There is a time for us to wander, when (days) are young, and so are we. There is a river, over yonder, the..........I don't know the rest. If anyone knows the title, and or the lyrics, please contact camper@gdi.net Thank you. |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Coralena Date: 08 Dec 97 - 12:30 PM I would love to have those lyrics too. A little bird had said that a CD would be out this past summer with "Songs from Mayberry", I have not found it yet. |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Old Timer Date: 08 Dec 97 - 03:08 PM The name of the song is "There is a Time". If I am not mistaken, it is on an album of the same name. I don't know if it's currently available, since this was done by the original Dillards (Rodney Dillard singing, I think) many years ago (probably about the time of the Andy Griffith show). At one time I had this album, and another excellent album called "Front (or Back) Porch Bluegrass" I would love to find this material re-issued on CD. I have "There is a Time" on a tape somewhere. If someone doesn't get it first, I will see if I can get the words for you. OT |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: lesblank Date: 08 Dec 97 - 07:22 PM Oldtimer ??? For once I get to return a favor. "The Dilliards -- There is a Time" is on CD, Vanguard Records, VCD-131-32. and is available from Vanguard Records, 1299 Ocean Ave. Santa Monica CA 90401. This anthology is a composite of the best from Backporch Bluegrass, Live -- Almost, Pickin' and Fiddlin', Wheatstraw Suite and , of course, Copperfields. It occupies the # 1 spot in my jukebox and remains one of my all time collections -- check out "She Sang Hymns Out of Tune" Unbelievable !! Happy listening Les Blank |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Old Timer Date: 09 Dec 97 - 11:56 AM Thanks Les, Santa just got an updated wish list. Brian and Coralena- I am working on the lyrics. The Dillards were greatly responsible for bringing me into the Bluegrass fold. They were very progressive for their time, even though it may not seem so these days. OT |
Subject: Lyr Add: THERE IS A TIME (from the Dillards) From: Old Timer Date: 10 Dec 97 - 11:41 AM Here is the way I hear it by the Dillards: THERE IS A TIME There is a time for love and laughter the days will pass like summer storms the winter winds will follow after but there is love and love is warm There is a time for us to wander when time is young and so are we the woods are greener over yonder the path is new the world is green There is a time when leaves are falling the woods are grey the paths are old the snow will come when geese are calling you need a fire against the cold Repeat verse 2 So when you're roaming in the springtime and you find your love in the summer sun the frost will come and bring the harvest and you can sleep when day is done Repeat verse 2 I hope this comes through in a readable form.. OT |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: DrWord Date: 10 Dec 97 - 01:52 PM PLEEEEEASE post Dillards lyrics to the database! The biggest whatever... Close the door lightly when you go all the Wheatstraw songs. In happy anticipation, dennis |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Coralena Date: 11 Dec 97 - 10:36 AM Thank you Old Timer! The Dillards are a joy to listen to. Hope I can find a CD of them at one of the music stores in town. Some of my favorite Andy Griffin shows were the ones they were in. Also the actress that played their sister sang well too, I can hear her singing Salty Dog. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE WHOLE WORLD 'ROUND (from the Dillards From: Old Timer Date: 11 Dec 97 - 10:59 AM Here is one more. I don't want Dennis to be let down! THE WHOLE WORLD 'ROUND I heard my neighbor's rooster crow Early in the day I heard his axe beyond the hill And now I'm bound away For some men love the city life And some men crave the town And I'll be bound for the lonsome wood Where I'll settle down CHORUS: Fiddle and a bow and a firelight's glow You can hear that lonesome sound I'll leave behind my troubling mind And go the whole world 'round The red squirrel leaves when the grey squirrel comes The eagle nests alone A hundred miles from a wagon track Is where I'll build my home CHORUS I've seen the old man whittling wood I've seen the streets of town I'll pack my goods for the Arkansas woods And there I'll settle down CHORUS Enjoy! OT |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Old Timer Date: 11 Dec 97 - 01:36 PM A thought for you pickers out there, concerning *The Whole World 'Round*: Doug Dillard does a nifty take-off on *Clinch Mountain Backstep* for his Banjo break! OT |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Ron Date: 12 Dec 97 - 10:59 PM Probably apropos of nothing (as they say)- I have a bit of trivia concerning the Dillards. Back in the later 40's, early 50's they lived in E. St. Louis, Il. They were in a Cub Scout pack when my dad was cubmaster. Their dad was also a song and dance sort of guy and helped out with the cub scout group. The brothers moved back to Missouri and created the best blue grass sound I know of. I have all their albums. Oops, sorry for babbling. |
Subject: RE: Dillards Lyrics From: Dale Rose Date: 13 Dec 97 - 12:33 AM Since there have been a lot of questions about availability of the Dillards music, I went searching, and found these at the Elderly site: video THE DILLARDS: A NIGHT IN THE OZARKS produced & directed by John McEuen The original Dillards reunite and join friends for an informal evening of music making. 85 min. 290-1.....our price $19.95 I have it, and think it would be a worthwhile investment for those true fans out there. . . . and the recordings: HOMECOMING AND FAMILY REUNION CD...FLYF-CD215 I eliminated their prices and cassette availability, but their prices are as good or better than most. I always buy locally when I can, though. |
