Subject: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: GUEST Date: 22 May 01 - 05:41 PM I've never had much time for McTell, but his song "dreamtime" is cool... Anyone know the lyrics? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 May 01 - 07:47 PM Be very careful. Ralph is notorious for not wanting his stuff published or displayed on a public forum.... LTS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: GUEST Date: 22 May 01 - 07:54 PM Thanks Liz, That explains why there's no 'unofficial' homepage for him. What's his problem with it? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 May 01 - 07:55 PM Royalites I think... he is very twitchy about people parodying him too, hates even a one word change to any of his lyrics. This from a man who admits to doing 'Tickle on the Tum' children's show..... LTS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: GUEST Date: 22 May 01 - 07:58 PM "Look down, there's Tickle town And there's the river Tum" Shame that he's so uptight. Always seemed like a nice guy... |

Subject: Lyr Add: DREAMTIME (Ralph McTell) From: GUEST,The Lyrics Date: 25 Nov 07 - 08:46 PM DREAMTIME Ralph McTell The scent, a smoke on desert wind Beneath the Southern Cross Far beyond where time begins And generations loss I could not be further from you Now with both feet on the ground But in the dreamtime Souls take flight I am a closer to you now If I should lay me down to sleep By forest green or shining lake I could arise to find you gone To take for granted my mistake Yet I could not be further from you Now with both feet on the ground But in the dreamtime Souls take flight I am a closer to you now Mountains crumble forests vanish Seeds awakened by the fire Water air and earth have borne them And I can feel my old ones near Yet I could not be further from you Now with both feet on the ground But in the dreamtime Souls take flight And I am a closer to you now Flames are dancing in the fire Timeless songs are on the air In the wilderness they're crying But there is laughter everywhere And I could not be further from you Now with both feet on the ground But in the dreamtime Souls take flight I am a closer to you now. I am a closer to you now. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: Big Al Whittle Date: 26 Nov 07 - 03:40 PM Here is a website run by an Italian fan of Ralph that has most of his lyrics. http://www.weatherthestorm.it/_private/lyricsuk.htm Ralph seems to approve of the guy, who is a very genuine fan and does all us Ralph fans a great service. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: Fliss Date: 27 Nov 07 - 10:44 AM Just checked out the link... what a super website. As a long term Ralph fan I think its great. I entertained my WI some years ago and got a pot plant in payment. When I saw Ralph at one of his concerts I offered to get him a small plant in payment of royalties as I had sung 'Barges'! Ralph has always been a very private person. Sad you 'never had much time' for him, he is a great blues player and his own songs are very to the point. They have helped me a lot over the years. Especially 'An Irish Blessing'. He was playing in Ludlow (Shropshire) the other week and I hadnt found out soon enough to go. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ralph McTell; Dreamtime From: Big Al Whittle Date: 27 Nov 07 - 12:20 PM Ralph is a great man, great artist all right. Having said that, I wasn't keen on the last show I saw him do at Newark Thetre a few weeks ago. he read a lot of extracts from his autobiographies. i don't think he's that good at reading out - it's a different sort of skill - an actor, or a teacher maybe....he laughs at his own jokes, never a good sign in my book! his great strength lies in playing the guitar, writing songs and performing them. Glad to see, he has sorted out his problems with moving from electro acoustic yamahas to Gibson j45's... he has finally got that massive guitar sound by use of huge speakers and a contact microphone covering the entire back of the guitar. sorry for the thread drift, thought it might interest the other fans. For I still count myself a great fan of Ralph. |
