Subject: Looking for names of some songs... Help!
From: GUEST,davidVA
Date: 14 Jun 01 - 03:14 PM

I am looking for the titles and if possible artists who recorded the following songs. I have searched this database and others for these and have had no success:

1. The first song is a song that I heard in a movie (not sure what movie) and from the sound of it I would say it was a tune from the 40s or 50s. Not 50s pop rock though, seemed more like jazz/big band. Female vocalist, lyrics that went something like "way down in Birmingham, way down in Alabam, yeah yeah..." That's all I really know about it.

2. The next song is a song that I most recently heard in the season finale of that tv-show "Ed." Also a female vocalist, sounds like a 50s or 60s love ballad, and the lyrics contain the phrase "in clover."

If anyone can shed some light on either of these, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks ahead of time!

Try putting your phrases in a search using the digitrad search box at the top of the screen; you might get some possible links

Subject: Lyr Add: TUXEDO JUNCTION
From: Quincy
Date: 14 Jun 01 - 04:30 PM

Hi David,

First song is as follows.......
TUXEDO JUNCTION

Feelin' low
Rockin' slow
I want to go
Right back where I belong

Way down south in Birmingham
I mean south in Alabam'
There's an old place where people go
To dance the night away

They all drive or walk for miles
To get jive that southern style
It's an old jive that makes you want
To dance till break of day

It's a junction where the town folks meet
At each function in a tux they greet you

Come on down, forget your care
Come on down, you'll find me there
So long town, I'm heading for
Tuxedo Junction now

Feelin' low
Rockin' slow
I want to go
Right back where I belong

Way down south in Birmingham
I mean south in Alabam'
There's an old place where people go
To dance the night away

They all drive or walk for miles
To get jive that southern style
It's an old jive that makes you want
To dance till break of day

It's a junction where the town folks meet
At each function in a tux they greet you

Come on down, forget your care
Come on down, you'll find me there
So long town, I'm heading for
Tuxedo Junction now

Tuxedo Junction now

best wishes, Yvonne

I don't know about the original, but Manhattan Transfer do a nice rendition of Tuxedo Junction.

Never heard of a tv show called "Ed" and "in clover" is precious slim to go on -- can you remember any more?

Wish I could help more.

Alex

Jeez Alex, you never heard of "Ed"? Wednesdays at 9 on NBC. It's about a lawyer who runs a bowling alley...it's a cute show. My sister likes it a lot.

Subject: Lyr Add: AT LAST
From: Quincy
Date: 14 Jun 01 - 04:47 PM

Well Dave, the only lyrics I can find are this love song by Etta James......only one mention of "in clover".

AT LAST
At last
My love has come along
My lonely days over
And life is like a song

At last
The skies above are blue
Well my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Well

You smile
You smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A dream that I
Could call my own
I found a thrill
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Well

You smile
You smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

You are mine
You are mine
At last
At last
At last
At last

regards, Yvonne

You forget, Matt, I have things to do with my life besides watching that infernal box. I haven't watched a network TV show in probably 10 years.

mousethief,
Pry yourself away from the computer. there really are one or two things worth watching on network TV. Sorry, Matt, but "Ed" is not one of them.

They're not worth buying cable for, Sins. We have absolutely NO reception in our valley. And the computer is not the issue. It's spending time with my family, working in the garden, playing my guitar. I have no time for TV.

My only suggestions are "In Your Easter Bonnet", which features the line, "I'll be all in clover," and Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover" (I suppose someone might think Tommy sounded like a female; I thought Wayne Newton did on "Danke Schoen")

MT I just read on the last thread that I looked at that you are a Big B employee, me too. I also live in a valley where I get 1 (one) and only one TV channel, which most of the time is not worth watching anyhow. Is there an east west timewarp or something going on ?
