Well, it was written (wam) in 1923 by Harry M. Woods, who died in 1970.

Thank you. My mother used to sing bits of this to Little Duckling (aka Madeleine) but I never knew the song or where she got it from.

The song has been posted and harvested twice before, but neither version had the introductory verses that Alex posted.
