I'm looking for a song I believe was recorded by Lonzo & Oscar. It's about a pet pig who understands what people say. It is now time for the pig to go to the B U T C H E R. Then he will come back home as B A C O N. Anyone know it?

I'm not having any luck at all. Do you have any actual phrases from the song?

Sorry, I don't. Actually, a friend heard someone sing it and only remembered that he spelled out b-a-c-o-n and b-u-t-c-h-e-r, but the pig understood what was being said.

Could it be B.A.C.O.N. and E.G.G.s you're looking for?

Glad you like the site, Nathan. It gets a lot of input from me, and I took the 'Bacon' words down myself. I've never come across the song elsewhere, but then I'm not a country fan.

Just so it's here and searchable, let my copy what's on Susanne's site. thanks, Susanne.
-Joe Offer-

B.A.C.O.N. and E.G.G.s

(Braddock / Putman)

We're having B.A.C.O.N. and E.G.G.s for breakfast today
And that's her U.N.C.L.E. sitting on the breakfast tray
We're careful not to use L.A.R.D. in our recipes
    We can't stop having B.A.C.O.N. and E.G.G.s

Our brute Sal is four years old, a cheerful little hog
She's our little farmhouse pet and smarter than any dog
She's so smart we have to spell the words we don't want her to guess
    Like H.A.M. and S.P.A.R.E. R.I.B.S.

See her smile - romance has found her, yesterday she fell
    Plumb in love with a F.O.O.T.B.A.double L.
But look, she's squeezing it so hard the air's all coming out
And I can't bear to see them teardrops dripping down her snout

    (as sung by Iain MacKintosh)

    skw

Subject: Lyr Add: DIVORCE (from Tammy Wynette)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 21 Sep 03 - 10:30 PM

Didn't anyone recognize that the above song is a parody of DIVORCE, made famous by Tammy Wynette in 1968? Here's the original, for comparison:

DIVORCE (a.k.a. D-I-V-O-R-C-E)
(Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman)

Our little boy is four years old, and he's quite a little man.
So we spell out the words we don't want him to understand.
Like T-O-Y, or maybe S-U-R-P-R-I-S-E.
But the words we're hiding from him now tear the heart right out of me.

CHORUS: Our D-I-V-O-R-C-E becomes final today.
Me and little J-O-E will be going away.
I love you both and this will be pure H-E-double-L for me.
Oh, I wish that we could stop this D-I-V-O-R-C-E.

Watch him smile, h e thinks it's Christmas, or his fifth birthday.
And he thinks C-U-S-T-O-D-Y spells fun, or play.
I spell out all the hurtin' words and I turn my head when I speak.
'Cause I can't spell away this hurt that's dripping down my cheek. CHORUS

[Recorded by Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Dottie West, and others.]

Here's what Homer and Jethro sing. This is my transcription from The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites, Real Country Page 26. Unfortunately, the Record Lady doesn't give any origin information, but I'd bet Lonzo and Oscar and Iain MacKintosh got it from Homer and Jethro. Note that the following version identifies which is the chorus, puts the verses in a more logical order, and corrects one mondegreen.

D-I-V-O-R-C-E (B-A-C-O-N & E-G-G-S)

Our brood sow is four years old, a very smart little hog.
She's made us a real fine house pet, better than any dog.
And she's so smart we have to spell words we don't want her to guess,
Like H-A-M and S-P-A-R-E R-I-B-S.

CHORUS: We're a-havin' B-A-C-O-N and E-G-Gs for breakfast today,
And that's her U-N-C-L-E sizzlin' on my breakfast tray.
We're careful not to use L-A-R-D in her recipes,
But we can't stop eatin' B-A-C-O-N and E-G-Gs.

Watch her smile. Romance has found her. Yesterday she fell
Plumb in love with a F-O-O-T-B-A-double-L.
But look she's a-huggin' it so hard that all the air's comin' out,
And I can't bear to see them tears a-drippin' down her snout. CHORUS.

Could it be that DIVORCE is the parody, not the other way round?

Well, I for one wouldn't be able to sing DIVORCE with a straight face, but I'm rather sure Tammy Wynette did.
