Is anyone going to the Conwy Bluegrass Festival this weekend? Its a fine affair with lots of BG and Old Time sessions, squaredancing, UK and US guest artists and dance teams. Just turn up with a tent on friday night, and camp in the festival field. If you play banjo, guitar, fiddle, bass, mandolin, autoharp, dulcimer etc, your fingers will be totally knackered by Sunday afternoon, and you'll have had a great time. Details are HERE

Cheers
Ray

Conway ? Where? There are lots of Conways I know about, live near one. We often have bluegrass festivals here but I don't know of one coming up right away. Fill me in.

The festival Banjoray is referring to is the North Wales Blue Grass Festival which has been held in Conwy for the last few years.

Anybody here have information on this year's festival?

Oh, and a request if Joe or the "clones" read this thread. Please change the spelling to Conwy.

getting to Dublin was the hardest part, then just a ferry and a 50 min train journey to Conwy
This was the 15th year of the festival
We were very lucky with the weather this year and there was loads of informal music making at the campsite. I didn't think there were so many 5 string banjo players in Britain. Even if it had rained, we would have been able to play in the pickers tents that were helpfully provided
for info on other events, look up the British Bluegrass Music Association. They also list events in Ireland.

There's a BG festival in Llandudno this weekend - bloody expensive and no day tickets - so i'm giving it a miss.

Hmm,

Well Mr I.M.Pecunious, it's not cheap but then again compared with various other festivals it's not too expensive either. There's a certain amount of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' when it comes to that sort of things. I had been led to believe that it was originally planned as just a picking weekend but it has obviously grown.

But... if you were at a loose end in February (16th-18th) there is an American Old Time Music festival run by the Friends of American Old Time Music and Dance FOAOTMAD held in the wilds of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire featuring none other than the Orpheus Supertones (led by the legendary Walt Koken). Non- members price is still (for you) expensive at £35 (including camping - indoor or outdoor) but for members I can announce that it will be a only £25 for a weekend ticket.

OK it's an unashamed 'plug' taking advantage of a related thread but can blame our Chairman Ray for starting it...

And good luck to John, Gill & co at Conwy and the team at Llandudno... it's a thankless task.

Nick
