If you have a sound card, mag', you should be ok- don't even need a mic if you just want to listen!

most people use pc mikes - the real deciding factor seems to be the speed of your connection - I am borderline - some nights I can hear fine, some nights I can transmit - but other nights everything going out is choppy...

Where is paltalk? I'm totally new to this sound on the computer stuff. Computer is brand new and supposedly came with sound. I downloaded realaudio so I can get the radio shows, and just hope I did it right. Boy, am I going to learn a LOT.

ps, I'm the same as MAG.

Angie, and mag, the room doesn't exist until someone opens it. Often when that happens, the person opening the room starts a thread asnnouncing the fact. If you try to find the room a couple hours after the last post to the announcement thread, you'll often be unsuccessful, since the room gets closed if nobody is performing or if no one is willing to administer the room.

There are a number of other rooms which feature live performances, and Mudcatters can often be found in those rooms if there's not a Mudcat specific room open. Live rooms usually feature that fact in their room descriptions. After you've used Paltalk a few times, you'll get the hang of it. There's really no great mystery involved.

Yeah, I downloaded Paltalk, which now gives me ads everytime I boot up, and they assigned me mag_93 (??)-- I have to reinstall my soundcard via telephone to my service guys, since I do actually seem to have wiped it. MicroSoft something also keeps trying to download and my virus protection won't let it. New EVERYTHING. I should be practicing for a Saturday gig. Catchup time.

and I did get a little $5 pc mic. If the sound quality is crap, what should I get?

Oh, and I did go look at the Paltalk threads.

I have added both of you to my pal list (I am jiggie_1)... so if I see you online I'll try to point you in the right direction.......

you can't download Paltalk while you have a firewall in operation. you need to turn off the firewall, install paltalk then set up the firewall again
