I keep envisioning him in "Alice's Restaurant", he looked barely old enough to shave. Was it that long ago?

I've always had a special place for Arlo. Now he is one of the few artists who my children will ask me to play.

Jeez, Arlo, we're getting to be, like, middle-aged. Our kids are having kids. It's hard to cool. The music we like is 'out' unless you're Emmylou. The clubs that still book it have wheel chair ramps (and most of our audience can't stay up that late anyway). We ain't old enough to be 'rediscovered, but we're to old to be hip. I don't know about you but I didn't plan for this. Back in '72 or so I talked to Sam Chapman at a festival about being 'rediscovered'. I had that figured out. But this in between stuff, man I just don't know.

Anyway, happy birthday, Arlo, I hope you're handling this better than I am.

When I saw Alice's restaurant. I was in my teens. Arlo looked old to me. Today, I was amazed to find how close we are in age. (I'll be 43 in a couple of months).

Happy birthday, Arlo. You are a much nicer guy than my Uncle Arlo. The movie about your Dad which played at Northwest Folklife was great, and you were a stitch in it.
