Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 12 Aug 01 - 07:45 PM Hey, I just heard a friend of mine is going to be there with some of her girl friends. IF you see a lady, blonde, around 5'6", with a REALLY BIG voice, say hi for me. That should be Debbie Reeves from Cape Breton! Get her to sing one or two of her OWN songs. She has lots. The Family Choir and Joshua are great songs. |

Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 12 Aug 01 - 09:59 AM All mudcatters and partners are welcome to the barbeque. We managed last year with two standard size ones but if it looks like more are coming this year it could be handy to have another one. Everyone brings something to go on the barbeque (the butchers on Baxtergate does some nice sausages and burgers - different sorts) and something to drink. We provide the bread and some salady stuffs crisps etc. and everyone sort of mucked in with things. Last year we had a few non catters came who joined and are now regulars so if anyone has hovered on the fringes and wants to know what mudcat is all about they are also welcome. As a regular at the Jug I am used to fitting large numbers into small spaces!!!! |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: GUEST,Flaj Date: 12 Aug 01 - 09:17 AM Hi all, Can I have some advice please too. Mrs Flaj is letting me go to Whitby by myself. My first holiday ever without my minder (herself). Don't know if I'm doing the right thing but have volunteered to be a warden and have been signed on, which gets me a free campsite and free ticket for the week. Other than Stevie1 are any other catters wardens? The advice I'm seeking is how to find sessions with the catters I know from the Jug. We went on Sunday last year and trailed round all the pubs but I didn't see anyone I knew. Do any of you carry a mobile phone that I could ring to find out where you are? Next question is to Jeff and Mrs Duck about the barbecue - is it one of those where everybody has to bring their own barby or do you supply them and folks bring their own food or what? (Am I being a bit presumptious ie is it open to all or only invitees?) Looking forward to seeing you all there, Flaj. |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: smallpiper Date: 10 Aug 01 - 02:42 PM I'm going Sunday if you don't get any luck for saturday John |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: brid widder Date: 10 Aug 01 - 12:19 PM are any Hull catters going up to Whitby on Saturday?...any chance of a lift please? |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: brid widder Date: 09 Aug 01 - 01:09 PM Nick, Whitby week starts a week on saturday August 19th. Mrs Duck is right you will have a brill time with or without a ticket....if there are any official concerts etc you want to see you can usually pay on the door... or buy day tickets, there's so much unofficial stuff this is certainly the cheapest option...you will find yourself in places you don't need a ticket for wondering why you bought one!!there might be more of a problem this year in finding accomodation (never easy)or finding a place to camp as it is also regatta over the first weekend....as was mentioned earlier, whatever you do BE THERE...this is not just a festival...it's WHITBY!! |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: GUEST,Nick P. Date: 09 Aug 01 - 12:22 PM Thanks for that info Mrs Duck.....But I still don't know WHEN it is.PLEASE somebody tell me!!! |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 09 Aug 01 - 10:59 AM Not usually a problem getting tickets Nick although we have for a number of years not bothered and just enjoyed the free activities which take place in various pubs around the town. Anyone who has ordered a Mudcat badge will be able to collect it from myself or Geoff the Duck (usually to be found in or around the Tap and Spile) as Tig and the Badger won't be up until later in the week. If you are wanting one and haven't yet ordered contact them as soon as possible otherwise you'll have to wait until they get there with the badge making machine. |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: GUEST,Nick P. Date: 09 Aug 01 - 09:24 AM Hi All, I've been to agood many festivals in the last few years, but I've never been to Whitby! Can anyone let me know exactly when it is & are there any tickets left??? Thanks. Nick. |

Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Steveie1 Date: 09 Aug 01 - 08:25 AM Kjell Whitby is great. The area is beauitful and during the folk week the town is very lively. It is normally a peaceful place which I visit often just sort my head out. The camper van and you will be welcome on the Festival No2 Campsite which is located on the Guisborough Road going out of Whitby. I am the steward on that site. It opens at 1.00pm Friday. See you there and make yourself known if you make it. |

Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: nutty Date: 09 Aug 01 - 03:09 AM Ian - if you would like to check www.defra.gov.uk, you will see that the latest outbreak (7th August)was at LYTHE ..... about 4 miles from the centre of Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Ian@whitby Date: 08 Aug 01 - 07:07 PM The latest F&M cases are all over Lealholm way, so I can't imagine that affecting travel from Hull - unless you take the scenic route! (Hi all!) |

Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Paul from Hull Date: 08 Aug 01 - 12:02 AM By the way Steve, I wont be there until the Thursday, I dont think, so make sure you get my share too, if Malc is buying... & Les, you do right buying a hat...it'll still probably work out cheaper then buying yourself a drink! |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: Paul from Hull Date: 07 Aug 01 - 08:42 PM Hiya all... I suppose youre right there Les....*G* Dorrie, YES I know Aaron! Hiya Steve. Well, glad Malc did manage to get another Site. Last time I had email contact with him he was just setting off up to Whitby to try & sort that. Bobbys Girl: I would assume & HOPE, that Steve (or possibly I) would have heard from Malcolm had the Farmer encountered a problem since its been arranged. Will keep people posted on here if I hear anything more, as will Steve I'm sure. I would GUESS that the biggest effect we are likely to feel is SOME of the roads across the Moors maybe being closed to Traffic, which maybe affects us Hull folk more than others... |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: brid widder Date: 07 Aug 01 - 07:28 PM so will this be a Whitby festival with no garland for friday night? |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: bobby's girl Date: 07 Aug 01 - 06:08 PM Just a thought about the campsite in the farmers field - the foot and mouth regulations have been tightened up in the area in a major way in the last 10 days or so following another case, so even if the field is open you will need to be very careful. We travelled down from Durham to York after Folkworks across the moors, and there were loads of notices telling you not to go onto the moors from the roads, and disinfectant mats to drive over. Any of us coming into the area from outside are going to have to be very aware, and abide by the rules. |
Subject: RE: Whitby (UK) 2001 From: nutty Date: 07 Aug 01 - 03:43 PM You need a colourful outfit as well Les !!! LOL |
