Hey there one and all!

I am still learning quite a lot here, and I appreciate everyones patience with me while I learn the ropes.

I was wondering what those of you in this area play/sing/do, and what venues you perform?

Do any of you get together for any of the local music or to support other catters at their performances?

Have any of you played together?

Thanks! And everyone have a *great* weekend!!! :D

you mean just Celtic?..or general stuff? The FSGW has several regular 'sharing' events...and the newsletter (JOIN!) has LOTS of listings.

Oh, I mean everything, Bill!

I am curious to hear what instruments folks play, if they sing are they basso profundo? Tenor? Alto?, What sort of music do they play? What sort do they *like*? Do they get together? If so, where?

Wow! I want a lot for my nickel, don't I??? ;D

Really, I am moreso just curious at this point and want to learn about DC catters, though I am also curious about the whole group too. It is less likely though that I might run into someone who posts from England, so knowing where they go to listen/play is not as likely to create the happy coincidence of running into them.

I would love to know about the rest of you too, though!! Please do share! :D

ummmm....simply put, there is almost NOTHING that can't be found in the DC area....they aren't all on Mudcat, and those who are, are as diverse as can be imagined...you might better list YOUR interests in detail and see who responds...and DO look at that link above...it lists many venues.

Oh, most certainly BillD!

I guess what I am asking is simply what other catters are into themselves. I am not looking for anything in specific, but rather am curious about others that have found themselves here. It seemed a little more likely that I might actually run into some of those from this area, so I asked what DC folk were into.

It might be a lot of fun to try to place a face to a post should I ever find myself at a gig/bar/festival that other DC catters have said they were playing/attending.

Thanks! :D

Does CVille count as DC Area? It's closer to Richmond, where I think you are, CSoul...

I don't play any instruments but I sing a lot. I think I'm a contralto, but admit to sheer ignorance about it, I usually sing ALONG. Come to Fridays After 5 some time this summer!

Mrrzy,

If you are speaking of the Centerville that is next to Chantilly, I'd say that's real close! Is there perhaps another Centerville closer to Richmond with which I am not familiar? If not, then you are a hop skip from where I am near DC.

I am about 45 minutes out of the city proper (depending if it's rush hour, weekend, or you're braving 66).

Fridays where, Mrrzy, and what's the happenings there?

Thanks! :D

Celtic Soul--might I suggest that you reserve the weekend of October 19-21 and come to the FSGW Getaway, where you will meet something like 150 fellow music-makers? Perhaps half of them will be DC-area residents, and perhaps half (though not necessarily the same people) will be Mudcatters. If that's too long to wait, come to the next Open Sing on the first Friday of August (or the following Open Sing on the first Friday of September), where a third to a half of the local particpants will also be Mudcatters. Details at www.fsgw.org.

While we're mentioning things Celtic and DC, FSGW will present the great Irish traditional singer Tim Lyons on Wednesday, Sept. 5th, though the venue has yet to be announced.
