We will be at the (mainly) storytelling festival 'Festival at the Edge', Wenlock, Shropshire, from the 20th to the 22nd July. Come and find us at the stall and we'll set up a Mudcat sheet like we had at Alcester to see just who admits to being there!

It's usually an excellent festival with assorted guests, storytelling round the bonfires late into the night, some music and NO dancing.

I think all Mudcatters are more or less at the edge....something to do with traveling up and down the lines of history singing songs from distant eras addles their brains and they can't get back to the thick center of "real" time as easily....:>)

Since the festival is held on the very top of Wenlock Edge, a magical place where several leylines cross you are never exactly sure where you are in time.

The first time I went to the festival it took me a week to come back down to earth!

We have just got back from Wenlock.
The festival was sadly curtailed by the weather.
3 tractors were employed on Friday to get people onto site
and were on duty again today to carry out an orderly evacuation.
Glastonbury style and quantities of mud were endured by all who managed to get there.
Friday and Saturday ran mosly as billed but all events for Sunday were cancelled.
Lots of smiley faces as the Dunkirk spirit emerged.
Many thanks to everyone who made such a marvellous effort to cope in the difficult circumstances.
Particular thanks to the tractor boys who worked a 17 hour day on Friday.
Hi spot for me was "Sheelanagig" on Friday night,fantastic musisianship and stage presence. Next year the sun will shine.
Next weekend to warwick and we'll all be looking out for better weather.

Tig - there was dancing at FATE to Sheelanagig. Some of it hilarious, I have never seen anything like it. Hats off to the stewards (some still working there) who worked tirelessly and not a grumpy face in site. Unfortunately I seem to have bought most of the mud home with me....

I wish Warwick FF good luck with the weather!

I can assure people that there was dancing to the Boat Band too. But alas the opening ceremony we were organisng had to be cancelled. For various reasons, all rain related. However, the bonus for me was the most dramatic sky I have ever seen on Thgursday night at sunset, just before the thunder storm kicked in. Outstanding.
The weather wasn't all bad though. Saturday night ended tranquilly with us round the fire, surrounded by lanterns the kids had made, swapping stories. Mind you, we were all rather cold, the firewood was rubbish.

I was there, stewarding in the rain friday evening in the rain. Luckily we had arrived THursday in the dry.

The storm Thursday night was incredible. THe sky was all shades of purple and you could see the clouds sagging under the weight of water. Tony went home via Much Wenlock and it was in the eye of the storm, lightning all aronnd but no rain in the town.

What a shame that Sunday events had to be cancelled, but it was a health and safety issue.

I loved the stoic atmosphere of everyone there. What a shame for the organisers after all their hard work.

Grateful thanks to the farmers Arthur and Chris Hill for their hard work.

I enjoyed Mabon, very exciting. And Boka Halat fabulous end to Saturday with everyone dancing in the mud.

I've only just got back from Much Wetlock too - I went via Warwick, Anahata; it only took 8 days, not 6 years.

The sky on Thursday evening was absolutely amazing - I've never seen PINK LIGHTENING before! I thought I was hallucinating.

On Friday afternoon I spent 3 hours on gate duty in the pouring rain repeatedly asking the question "Have you got a towing hook on your vehicle/ Do you know where the towing point is?" The answer was normally "Haven't got a clue / Don't think I've got one." Wrong! Those in older cars were usually lucky, cos they had a fixed hook. Imagine people's faces when they realised that the little gizmo - which they had to screw into a hole which they didn't even know existed - was possibly underneath all their camping gear. Before they could get on site they might have to unload the boot in the pouring rain to find it. Ah; happy days!

I'm not sure whether they felt better or worse off than the steward who spent all night trapped on the M5 with floods in each direction.

Certainly a festival to remember - but not one I'd like to repeat.
