Subject: Brothers Malone From: GUEST,Julie Airs Date: 15 Jul 01 - 01:41 PM Does anyone know any more lyrics to a song called the Brothers Malone?? so far, the only ones I know are:
We are the brothers Malone, we come from the county Tyrone We are two dandys, we are two swells And to the ladies we raise our straw cadies In a neat little style of our own, we are the brothers Malone from Tyrone. You can tell by our hats we're a right pair of pratts We are the brothers Malone In a fight or a fuss, you will always find us Two heads are better than one How d'you do, how are you, what do you think, have a drink And down to the boozer we go It's the gear, have a beer - two heads are better than one You can tell by our hats we're a right pair of pratts We are the brothers Malone |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Brothers Malone From: GUEST,WIL Date: 17 May 08 - 09:29 AM ANOTHER VERSION OF BROTHERS MALONE / THE ASHTON MASHERS We are the two Ashton Mashers, We often go out on the bash, We wear no tall hats and no shirts to our backs, It's seldom we have any cash. We always try out the new fashions, While others they stick to the old, And though we are just twenty-seven, We are handsome, stout-hearted and bold. And we sing - tra-la-la-la-la, as we walk down the street, For style and perfection we ne'er can be beat, All the ladies declare, that we are a treat, We're the two Ashton Mashers from Back Preston Street. And we dance, and we sing, And we don't care a jot, we're a jolly fine lot, We're all right, when we're tight, And we're jolly good company. Last Saturday we were invited, To the steamer by two ladies fair, Their cheeks were in bloom, as the roses in June, As we danced with that beautiful pair. We had dancing and singing 'til midnight, We had whisky, tobacco and rum, Then after the dancing was over, With those ladies we had lots of fun, From Harry Boardman @English filename[ ASHTNMSH AG apr97 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Brothers Malone From: Flash Company Date: 17 May 08 - 09:58 AM GUEST, WIL..... I heard that version from the Oldham Tinkers and used to sing it. Interestingly, the term Ashton Mashers appears to have passed into common usage in North Manchester. Two of my rather 'wide boy' staff were referred to by another non folkie member of the company as' a right pair of Ashton Mashers' FC |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Brothers Malone From: Brian Peters Date: 08 Oct 09 - 06:02 AM Like GUEST,WIL, the one I know is the Ashton (or sometimes Rochdale) Mashers, although my memory is that Harry Boardman sang that they were from 'Old Stamford Street' and went on the pull to the Friendship. But how about this for an unusual parody? We are two Irish Maltese We come from the island of Gozo The first time we met, it was down in Vallett We are two Irish Maltese We're the twins tinga linga ling We're the twins tinga linga ling We're the brothers St. John and you know where we're from When we're out There's no doubt We're so much alike in our figure and height As we stroll along the prom The brass band plays tiddley-om-pom They say as we pass, 'There go two blades of grass' Me and my brother St John In the summer, you know To the seaside we go Where the air is so fresh and so bracing We sing and we shout when there's no-one about Me and my brother St. John From Cyril Tawney's 'Grey Funnel Lines' - Cyril remarked that "this was the least lewd assemblage of elements from various versions that I've been able to manage." Tommy Morrissey & Charlie Pitman sing a version of this on the Veteran Records compilation 'Stepping It Out'. |

We often bring out the new fashion, While the others, they stick to the old. Although we are scarce 27 We are daring, quite handsome and bold. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Brothers Malone From: GUEST Date: 18 Sep 19 - 03:49 PM My nan used to play the piano in various pubs in Marylebone. There was one called the Olive branch inthe 70's and 80's, and 2 men used to sing this. I will have to see if we have any old cassette tapes (they were the olden days after all) and listen again. I remember at the end, they would sing 'that's the end of all this, now don't take the piss, we are the brothers Malon' Great memories of very happy times! |
