Subject: The Memory Song From: richardw Date: 06 Aug 01 - 07:37 PM Does anyone know the words to "The Memory Song". I don't know who it was written by, but Mike Fleming and New West sing it. First line is "Looking for my wallet and my car keys" Richard Wright |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 01 - 09:52 AM hmmm. According to this site, New West has only 2 CD's out and it's not on either of them. Is this a new,3rd CD? Lyrics to most of the songs on the first 2 are at the above site. You might want to check there. There is also a "contact" button for e mail. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: richardw Date: 07 Aug 01 - 10:27 AM Sorcha; It's going on their next CD. I just heard Mike do it at a festival but was not able to record it or write the words down fast enough. Richard |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: GUEST,geniesings@hotmail.com Date: 11 Aug 01 - 02:32 AM A friend of mine sings this and I have it on a CD, which I won't be able to access until next week. The songwriter's last name, I think, is Waters or Walters, but don't quote me on that. If no one else gets you the lyrics and attribution by next week, email me to remind me, and I will get them for you. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: GUEST,Genie Date: 05 Sep 01 - 11:30 PM Richard, I have not forgotten "Memory." I have a call in to my friend who sings this song and knows who wrote it. I hope I can post the info for you very soon. If you already have it, I may post it anyway, since it's such a great song. (Something like, "I'm looking for my wallet and the keys to my car, And if I could find my glasses, I could see right where they are.") Genie |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: GUEST,Genie Date: 06 Sep 01 - 10:05 PM Richard, The Memory Song was written and recorded by Steve Walters, who used to be based in Denver but now lives, I think, in N. California. The guy I heard sing it learned it from a sound file posted on the website of Chuck Pyle, aka " Zen Cowboy." I don't know his current web address, but maybe some other catter does. If all else fails, I will find and play my CD of it and transcribe the words myself for posting. Genie

I may know him just as "Bill." By all means, if you can get the lyrics, post them. *Good tongue twister: sings songs with his spouse at second Saturday song circles. |

In response to a request thread, I am posting The Memory Song. I learned this song from Mo Mack in Portland, who got it from Chuck Pyle. It is a sort of talking blues -- a simple C-F-G(7) progression.^^ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Genie Date: 03 Oct 01 - 08:20 PM Joe, Thanks for fixing it. I wasn't sure whether it should be posted in the lyric request thread or as a lyric add thread with a link to the request thread. You da boss. Genie |

Reminds me of someone....let's see...oh, my husband....and me. Another great memory song, if you're into the genre, is Billions of Brain Cells Ago done by Left Field. Never fails to break me up. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Vicar Date: 12 Aug 08 - 07:29 PM I've been thinking that Tom Rush wrote the Remembering Song. He has a great version of it on You Tube and it's had over three million hits! Watch it and roar! Joe Frazier CMT |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Aug 08 - 08:28 AM The FAQ page of Tom Rush's web site says:
However, in the track list of Tom Rush's album "Trolling for Owls," the same song is called "REMEMBER?" It's the same song that's called THE MEMORY SONG above. I sure wish people would be consistent! But maybe even the author doesn't remember what he called it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Genie Date: 13 Aug 08 - 05:03 PM The author? That would be Steve Walters. Has Steve ever recorded it with a title other than "The Memory Song?" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: topical tom Date: 13 Aug 08 - 06:50 PM Tom Rush sings The Memory Song |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Memory Song From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Aug 08 - 07:11 AM According to Bitmunk.com, THE REMEMBER SONG, written by Steve Walters, was recorded by Chuck Pyle on "Keepin' Time by the River," 2001. According to CowboyPoetry.com, THE REMEMBER SONG, written by Steve Walters, was recorded by Curly Musgrave and Belinda Gail on "Red Rock Moon." According to CowboyPoetry.com, THE REMEMBER SONG, written by Steve Walters, was recorded by New West on "Buckaroo Dream." Those are all the recordings I can find (besides Tom Rush's). Google turns up lots of people named Steve Walters. If the songwriter has his own web site, I haven't been able to find it, or any information about him. |
