Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: John C. Bunnell Date: 26 Jun 21 - 09:15 PM Following on from a query a good way up, the Hope/Crosby song in question is "Hoot Mon" from The Road to Bali. There are - not surprisingly - two versions, a shorter number as seen in the film proper, and a longer version with a different spoken gag that was released in at least two versions on vinyl. HOOT MON words & music: Jimmy Van Heusen & Johnny Burke from The Road to Bali – performed by Bob Hope & Bing Crosby Movie Version REFRAIN: Hoot Mon, out o' my way, who do you think you are It's the toe o' my boot, Mon, if you push too far Hoot Mon, this is the day I celebrate my birth The seventh son of a seventh son of a son of a gun from Per-rr-rr-th. Who can play the drum? Is there a piper in the town? Have them put their kilts on and come right down! All you brawny lads, whether you're poor or men of wealth, Meet me in the tavern to drink my health! Who's that standing in my path? (BING: Stand clear!) Arrgghh, don't ya know you're face to face with Robbie McMath? (BING: Robbie McMath) REFRAIN BOB: Say, Haggis- BING: What is it, McMaggis? BOB: Have ye heard the latest about McTavish? BING: What’s he done now? BOB: He’s living on the roof! BING: Why would he be living on the roof? BOB: He heard someone say the drinks are on the house! //// Recorded Version The seventh son of a seventh son of a son of a gun from Per-rr-rr-th! REFRAIN: Hoot Mon, out o' my way, who do you think you are? It's the toe o' my boot, Mon, if you push too far; Hoot Mon, this is the day I celebrate my birth: The seventh son of a seventh son of a son of a gun from Per-rr-rr-th! Who can play the drum? Is there a piper in the town? Have them put their kilts on and come right down! All you brawny lads, whether you're poor or men of wealth, Meet me in the tavern to drink my health! Oh, who's that standing in my path? (BING: Stand clear!) Arrgghh, don't ya know you're face to face with Robbie McMath? (BING: Robbie McMath!) REFRAIN I flung Kilcallan and touted McAllan and pretty near crippled McQueen; McDuff used to hide, but I beat up McBride and I belted up Barney McDean; McGraw and McGregor looked worse than a beggar and had to go home for a bath; You'll never look nobby by makin' a hobby of sparrin' with Robbie McMath! REFRAIN BOB: Say, Haggis- BING: What is it, McMaggis? BOB: Where are you from, Laddie? BING: I'm from Briarcliff-on-the-Heather. It's the station right after Thistle-on-the-Doon. Where are you from, laddie? BOB: I'm from Bristles-on-the-Thigh. It comes right after Shaving-on-the-Leg. REFRAIN |
Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: GUEST,Guest-colleen Date: 26 Jun 21 - 06:24 PM My great grandpa was the 7th son/7th son. He was known for stop bleeding & heal the burns, and miner ailments like worms in children. He had some rules hat went with healing. The rule was, he could pass his powers to his blood relatives with more rule, a man could pass the power to a female blood relatives & she then passed it to a male blood relatives and so on, never pass to the same sex, I don't know what would happen if you did. He also would say a few words while circling the patient..this has been passed in my family and I wrote down the words he would say. I have never had to use it and don't know of any special powers. I do have dreams that came true, one was an airplane crash & my friend died, the next day it happened , creeped me out. |

Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: Deckman Date: 11 Jun 08 - 01:54 AM Both of my Grandmothers were healers. My Finnish Grandmother came to America when she was 16 (1896). She was an "Old Speaker" ... we were very close. My American Grandmother was a minister in the American Pentecostal church. She taught me hands on healing when I was seven. By eight I was "speakin in tongues." At that very early age we knew I had the gift. I couldn't explain it ... didn't even try. I (we) just knew it worked. At the age of ten I witnessed things that drove me from the church. About twenty years ago I was staying with my cousin for a few months. She was hurting in her arm. I tried the healing and it worked. It scared the hell out of both of us. And NO, I'm NOT the 7th son of the 7th son ... if I was, and if wanted, I could probably rule the world! Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: GUEST,B Date: 10 Jun 08 - 03:17 PM Hi, When I was a baby I had sever thrush and candida all through my body and genitals. My mom tried EVERYTHING and the docs didn't know why nothing was working. They tried several Rx, creams, and that blue stuff to paint my mouth with. A lady in our town said that her mother in law was a seventh daughter and could cure it. My desperate mom took me to her (she too was southern baptist and very religious). Anywho, my thrush literally cracked and peeled off of my mouth the very next day. It came back about a year later after taking antibiotics ad my mom called her to schedule an appt and she told mom just to put the phone up to my ear. This time it took about 2-3 days ,but cracked and peeled away also! This has always interested me bc i want to know how in the heck she does it (especially on the phone). Also, I am having problems with candida infection now and nothing seems to work in my 20s either so I'd be willing to try a seventh son/daughter out again. Anyone know of one in the Florida panhandle/alabama area? |

Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: GUEST,The Smoky Mountain Seventh Son Date: 17 Feb 05 - 05:04 PM Ran across this thread....This paste from above was taken from my old website and research. Anyone wanting to know about the life and times of a true 'seventh son' reply to Subject: RE: BS: Seventh son of a seventh son From: Letty Date: 16 Aug 01 - 06:35 AM Well, traditionally 7th sons of 7th sons are supposed to be witches or at least have some magical powers. Here's a quote I had lying about somewhere (don't know the source): Belief in the special gifts of a Seventh Son or Daughter can be found in Folklore throughout the world. Leslie Shepard in his 'Encyclopedia of Occultism and parapsychology' states that in Romania the Seventh Child is fated to become a vampire. And that in England in the seventheenth century there were reports of a Seventh Son healing the deaf blind and lame. In France, The Seventh Son was called a 'Marcou' and branded with a 'fleur-de-lis' {reknown worldwide as a symbol of the Divine & Quality, and all that is Holy, Click this Link for history}. Good Luck was also said to attend the Seventh Child. In olden days, when Captains of Merchant Ships were setting sail on long voyages, they would try, 'often by force if neccessary' to have a Seventh Son on ship as Legend has it that the Ship wouldn't sink with a Seventh Son on Board The reason why the Seventh Child as opposed to the first or the fifth for example-should have 'Special Powers' has it's roots in ancient beliefs. The number Seven has many mystical and religious associations. Apart from the Bible telling of God creating the world in Seven Days, The number features throughout the old and new testaments. Seven is a very significant number in numerology and is the basic unit of transition in natural cycles from the week as a phase of the lunar cycle to the idea that many of life's patterns are divided in phases of Seven. I got a good deal of Irish tradition from my parents, but I couldn't tell you if it came from their parents, or from the Irish maids their parents employed. My mother always said her grandmother was "fey". It was only shortly before she died that she would admit to being "fey" herself. I call it the whatsis, being reluctant to have that much faith in it. There was the time I got a strong sense not to walk down a certain street. I did. Two boys were tossing a football back and forth, and one of them got me good, right on the head. A three day headache!!! Since which time, if the whatsis says, don't go that way, I don't. but I refuse to take it really seriously. |

Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: GUEST,Sailing_on_by Date: 16 Oct 04 - 10:37 PM My grandmother was a 7th child of a 7th child. She is now deceased. I grew up in a Babtist family.. her whole family was southern babtist and her husband my grandfather who died before I was born was a preacher. Anyways.. my grandmother had special healing powers. Like the post from Guestbj in Ireland, my grandmother could cure thrush mouth, ringwor, and instantly heal burns. She also "took away" the 10 warts that were on my hands that I had have burned off my doctors but kept returning. She was a religious women though the church would not recognize or understand this. So it was kept hush hush in my family. Grandma never advertised these gifts.. but the family after seeing so many miraculas healings.. accepted this.. bu t never talked about it. She had a 7th son (she had 12 children altogether) and he could also had special healing powers. He also had very bad epilipsey and died young (40's). But he was special.. he was kind and you could just visably see he was very special. I am glad to find other messages.. as I have not talked about this for many years. Sailing |

Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: Big Al Whittle Date: 25 Aug 04 - 04:14 AM My wife got rheumatoid arthritis when she was 25 years old. As she was young the illness surged through her body and was soon in every joint - changing our lives utterly in weeks. When a disaster like this happens - you look for an escape clause in reality. So one day my Mum was driving through a suburb of Birmingham (England this is - not Alabama)and she saw that an Irish 7th son of a seventh son was holding a healing ministry in one of those fundamentalist scout hut type churches. We took Denise along - figuring what the hell. It won't do any harm. as I remember the guy looked a bit Eamon Holmes that very engaging dark Irish handsomeness, and he wore a pale green suit was SO Mr Showbiz in the 1970's - which is when this happened. Most people had diseased arms, breasts etc and he laid his hands on them. But Denise was diseased all over so he advised her to bathe at midnight and into the bath put the earth from a freshly dug grave. So we thought what the hell. We did all that. However unsurprisingly this caused no improvement in her medical condition. I hope you find this helpful - its the only dealing I've had with 7th sons of seventh sons. |
Subject: RE: Need Info: Seventh son of a seventh son From: Bob Bolton Date: 25 Aug 04 - 12:15 AM Hmmm ... No folklore on this (not much about in the bright, exceeding dry, air of Australia - but a friend's Dad was the 14th child of a 14th child. (His family lived in a sleepy little village on, the 'bush' side of the Great Dividing Range, called Sunny Corner ... and there wasn't much else to do at nights!) If the genders of the children of both generations followed the statistical norm, there's a pretty good chance that he was the 7th son of a 7th son - although I can't recollect any 'magical' aura about him. Anyway, living in Sydney, in the post-war period he seems not to have intended to keep up the tradition ... he had 3 children; one daughter and two sons! Regards, Bob Bolton |

She had already passed away before I was born, but according to my mother, she had some degree of second-sight. I guess she found it very troubling when she saw something bad, so she tried not to use it. I wish I'd had the change to meet her (she died in 1935). Now that the culture is slightly more sympathetic towards people with special gifts, I wonder how she'd handle it if she were alive today. |

It's a damn silly song anyway.

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh son of a seventh son From: Lin in Kansas Date: 17 Aug 01 - 01:24 AM Lots of interesting interpretations around, many of which are mentioned above: Orson Scott Card, Terry Pratchett, Susan Cooper, etc. The "7th son" is also mentioned a lot in the old fairy tales, such as Grimm's. Usually the young man succeeded in whatever quest he was on because his luck, magical powers, and/or charm were phenomenal (due to his being a 7th son, of course). Grimm's is German, but for some reason I always thought of the 7th son tradition being Celtic-based? Sorry McPiper, but I don't recall anything that would imply that being a 7th son is less than wonderful. You may just have to gag your co-worker! Lin |

He has mystic power, but the next son who was also the 7th living son is also very powerful. |
