Subject: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Aug 01 - 08:25 PM This year I'll miss Whitby, but I'm hoping to get to Fylde, a tramride away from Blackpool (and on a differentb panet, it feels like.) Similar to Whitby in many ways, but flat as a pancake. With Uncle Alan Bell at the helm making sure everything goes swell.
Anybody else planning to go there? There must be. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Aug 01 - 08:27 PM on a different planet that should have been. Damn these gremlins. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: John Routledge Date: 16 Aug 01 - 08:31 PM Yes Kevin I will be there together with several other Catters who are singing 4 or 5 spots with the Shellbacks Chorus. The more the merrier John |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Noreen Date: 16 Aug 01 - 08:52 PM This should work better... Yes, McG, I'll be there too for the first time. Heard a lot about it- hope it's all true! Noreen |

Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Aug 01 - 11:47 AM Even if you didn't like folk music, it's worth it for the trams and the chips. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Les b (U.K.) Date: 17 Aug 01 - 01:08 PM Yes I'm going, B&B almost impossible to find in Fleetwood. The few left that hav'nt been turned into D.S.S. flats or Holiday apps get booked up 12mths before. Good fest, it has it's own character like most fests. The camp site is about 15-20 mins walk along the prom, with a Moor & Coast tent. See you all, in the Marine Hall bar at sometime over the W/end.(Good selection of real ales) |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Aug 01 - 09:13 PM Right, the tickets have arrived. Train to Blackpool, then tram. Then camp.
The best sessions, if you like it loud and raucous, are inn the Victoria, though that's not as splendidly murky as it used to be. But there's all kinds of tune sessions and song sessions, and the worst singer in the world contest. Great crack.
And though theoretically it starts on Thursday evening with a gathering in the pub, there are folk events in the Marine Hall during the days leading up. I'll be there on the Wednesday 29th. (With a guitar on me back, since I'm camping and there'll be no one guarding the tents till Thursday.)
Hope I see a few Mudcatters. Some of the time I'll have the T shirt on. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: clansfolk Date: 24 Aug 01 - 06:46 AM Will of course be at Fylde - under several guises!
John Bond's singaround session at the Mount - family room on Friday 12.00 could be a good start - or for Irish music Rusty and Stu will be in the next bar area (thank God for doors!!!!!)
Wednesday night's pre-festival gathering will be on at the Falcon from 8.30pm with open mike sessions til' closing. Everyone is welcome
For details on the Falcon and Fyldefolk Festival go to the - Fyldefolk Web Site.
It's a shame Ben and Joe Broughton can't make it this year due to a family illness - I sure everyone's thoughts are with them.
Are you bringing a talented young person (under 18) with you? why not let them enter the "Tallyman Contest" - there's a lot of headliners that started off there......
Also don't forget all the workshops - from beginners to advanced.....
Hope to see a few more Mudcatters to add to those I met at Sidmouth.
Pete
PS - Be warned the Illuminations switch on is on Friday 31st August and roads leading to and in and around Blackpool will be very busy..........

Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Eric the Viking Date: 25 Aug 01 - 05:31 AM I am hoping to get a visit in, but as I am back at work on Monday morning and have loads to do before hand-it's just a hope at the moment+ the family would like to do something for the weekend as we all start back after that. Cheers Eric |
Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: clansfolk Date: 27 Aug 01 - 07:33 PM Fylde kicks off to a Sunny start.........
Sunday Afternoon The Alan Bell band filled the square at the Mill keeping a sun basked crowd entertained with a great selection on Alan's song old and new.
Monday evening - the Jacinta concert had to be moved to the North Euston hotel - due to the fact that the Jacinta hasn't returned to Fleetwood from the repair work being undertaken - however a great night was had by all - Dave Jones (Folk North West Magazine) hosted the evening with music and songs from Penny Black, Spitting on a Roast & Friend, Red Duster, The Alan Bell Band and the evening was rounded off by Derek Gifford.
Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) Captain Coopers Motley Crew will be at the North Euston performing with their usual gusto and audience participation - guaranteed fun for all.
Another great Fylde Festival Weekend ahead

Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 Aug 01 - 08:22 PM I like weekends that start the previous Sunday. But for me the weekend starts on Wednesday. I might get to the Falcon, if I can work out a public transport link from Fleetwood to Poulton-le-Fylde. Or just see Alan Bell and friends in the Marine Pavilion. (I assume that all the PELs are in order - or that Alan Bell will have manoeuvred the local council into being cooperative about such things... |
Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Eric the Viking Date: 28 Aug 01 - 02:14 PM OK, what time and where's the meeting of mudcatters? I hope to get there for Friday lunchtime, but have to leave late on saturday night. Is there now something organised? Cheers Eric |
Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: John Routledge Date: 29 Aug 01 - 07:24 AM ERIC - If a local expert can name a venue for Fri lunchtime I will be there!! See you there - GBroon |
Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Eric the Viking Date: 30 Aug 01 - 04:22 AM I will be there selling Mudcat T's and patches, see new thread. Eric |
Subject: RE: Blackpool Rock - Fylde Folk From: Noreen Date: 30 Aug 01 - 04:56 AM Maybe Friday lunchtime in the Steamer, meet up after the sing finishes? If it ever does?? From what I've heard that's where most stuff goes on. I didn't like to suggest a time /venue as I've never been before, but I'll be leaving in a while and would like to have something in mind for a meeting. Otherwise, I will be singing, with several other catters, with the Shellback chorus at various venues over the weekend. I'll be at the Steamer 10.30 Sat am, where the Shellbacks gather to rehearse. Come and say hello! I'll wear my mudcat t-shirt when I can, and I'm off to look out my badge. Can't wait, now! Noreen |
