I have stumbled onto a couple of their recordings, and they appeal to me so much! I really like them! However, the recordings are 20 yars old... Anyone know what they are up to now? I'd love to see/hear 'em play!!!

Oh! to be able to play like Malcolm does... seems his rhythm is better than perfect!ttr

I had heard that Malcolm Dalglish was directing a Children's choir. Grey Larsen is still out playing, I believe. I think he's also done some soundtrack work.

Grey is currently playing with a young bodhran/guitar ace, Paddy League. Grey, who is the nicest man you'd ever hope to meet, lives in Bloomington, Indiana, and runs a monthly (first Friday) open Irish session there at the Border's bookstore coffee shop.

Used to be every Friday, then they pared it down to every other Friday, and now this; at this rate, there'll soon be no session at all. And yet the coffee shop is filled with people to come and hear. Go figure.

Some months ago, he and Paddy released their first joint album, The Green House. It and features Grey on flute, whistle, and concertina; Paddy mainly does drum and guitar, and is tremendous on both.

The two were doing workshops last week at the ZoukFest in Taos, NM.

The Indianapolis Irish Festival is September 20-21. Grey will be running the session tent one of those two days, but I don't know if Paddy will be there, too. (If not, my daughter will be inconsolable; she's lost her heart to the young and gorgeous Mr. League.)

Unfortunately I found the oolites a little too processed. I played the CD once and don't care to again. I, too, loved the Banish Misfortune recording. Oh well.

Back in the mid-80's when I lived in Indianoplace, Dalglish, Larsen and fine fiddler Pete Sutherland recorded a couple nice albums as Metamora. If you liked Thunderhead and Banish Misfortune, try looking for albums under that additional name. They greatly improved the quality of life in the vacant midsection of America...

I'll have to give Metemora another chance... I turned them off before I was able to really enjoy them. Seems I was in a bad mood or something...

For anyone who likes the Banish Misfortune album, I think you'll also really like The Green House. It's full of tradtional tunes, played beautifully. Don't buy anything else at the same time though, because you won't want to take this one out of the CD player!

(Unless you buy The Orange Tree. This was an album Grey Larsen did with Andre Marchand, of the group La Bottine Souriante. It combines traditonal music of Ireland and Quebec and is also really lovely.)

CamiSu, I kinda agree with you as far as the cds go. But I'll betcha the live concerts are another story entirely! (My chorus has done a couple of Dalglish's arrangements and they are not for the faint of heart!)

I agree with everyone as well, Banish Misfortune has got to be one my all time favorite albums, but I lost interest in Thunderhead pretty quick.

My six year old son and I got to see Malcolm in concert with the American Boys Choir many years ago, and that concert was stunning! I had heard he was a member of the Boys Choir, does anyone know for sure?
I also had a chance to play the dulcimer part on his arrangement of "A Star in the East" with orchestra and a 120 member choir. One of the high points of my performing, and as you said Animaterra, not for the faint-hearted!
That's a shame about the sessions being pared down in Bloomington. I don't know of any other town with so many talented musicians that people should get a chance to hear.
