Subject: Mother Song: ...hear my prayer From: GUEST,Hutzul Date: 24 Aug 01 - 12:42 AM Anybody remeber a song about Mother leaving or dying "then one night she wasn't there to kiss my head and hear my prayer" that's all I remember |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mother Song: ...hear my prayer From: Burke Date: 24 Aug 01 - 10:56 PM This was such a common theme in 19th century music, that it's hard to know where to start. I suppose you could start with browsing some of the sheet music at the Library of congress that starts with Mother in the title. Try here. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mother Song: ...hear my prayer From: Uncle Jaque Date: 24 Aug 01 - 11:07 PM Although I don't remember that phrase exactly, I do recall seeing several songs in my collection of 19th Century gospel & "Sacred" music to the effect of "Mother's Dying Words", "Mother's Dear Old Bible" & etc.. Like Burke says, it was a very common theme back then; death. And Mothers. When Mothers wern't dying, a child was... or the Sweetheart. Then along came the "Civil" War, and things really got depressing! It's kinda late now to start rummaging, but if i get a chance while this thread is still above water I'll crack into the archives and see what we can come up with. Have you tried the LEVY Collection? |
