There are two verses in addition to what you asked me to click on.

in a Movie with Jack Benny and Fred Allen, among others, about a chair with jewels sewed into the seat, dressed as waiters in a restaurant, Fred allen and Jack Benny sang two verses to this song. The verse melody, like other songs of this ilk, was different, as in, "She's more to be pitied than censured" and, "The Band Played on", which I do know./

OK, class, your assignment this week is to compare and contrast "Curse of an Aching Heart" with "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette. What do the two songs tell you about how society has changed since 1913? How have gender roles changed? How have courtship rituals changed, and how have they remained the same? How have modes of artistic expression changed? How significant is it that one author is male and the other female? How significant is it that one song is gender-specific and the other is apparently gender-neutral?
