I heard a song on the radio last week that I had forgotten all about. The Seaside Shuffle by Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs. I never realised at the time but it now sounds decidedly Cajun or at least 'Jug Band'. I have looked on Amazon and found there is a CD with this song on but before I order it a quick question -

Does anyone know if the rest of the stuff is like Seaside Shuffle or was that a one off? And does anyone know anything else about them or what became of them? BTW - the album is actualy called Alias Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs and seems to be by Brett Marvin and the Thuderbolts - I like the Dactyl name better myself but there's no accounting for taste...;-)

Cheers

For sure somebody will correct me if my memory is playing tricks here, but could that have been one of the earlier incarnations of Jonah Lewie, of "Stop The Cavalry" fame? That was always one of my favourite ever Christmas singles. I may be putting my foot in it, but I vaguely recall that both acts came from either Australia or New Zealand. At any rate, we will get this to the top of the threads again and see if we can jog anyone else's memory!

I'd be quite happy if it was Jonah Lewie - it's my favourite Christmas single as well. You can also dance some Morris to it and I believe the brass sections are taken from a Morris tune!

Ahh - flash of inspiration - did a google search - and found the following -

Jona Lewie: b. c.1943, England. A former member of Brett Marvin And The Thunderbolts and Terry Dactyl And The Dinosaurs, Lewie was one of several unconventional artists signed to the Stiff label.

Think I'll go ahead and order it then - If JL did write the songs there must be other gems there:-)

Cheers

Two of my friends (Jim James & Raphael Callaghan)recorded 2 tracks on an L.P. called 'I asked for water she gave me gasoline' a british blues compilation which included tracks from both Bret Marvin & the Thunderbolts and Jo Ann Kelly, also Tony McFee & the Groundhogs. n.b. Raphael still sings & plays with Christine Purnell as Blue C.
