Subject: Music in Portland, OR From: KT Date: 26 Aug 01 - 11:27 AM What's happening musically in Portland, OR? I've been told that there is a folk music event (festival?) happening in Portland in mid September, but have been unable to find any more information. Do any of you Portland area catters have any more info on this, and / or any regularly scheduled folk music events in the area? Thanks! KT

There is another festival that comes to mind in September, that is in Sisters OR which is in the middle of the state near Bend OR. Good luck.... Mudjack |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Mark Cohen Date: 26 Aug 01 - 03:28 PM This is the Portland Folklore Society web page, that should point you in the right direction. As Mudjack mentioned, Silver Falls may be the one you were told about. Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Amergin Date: 26 Aug 01 - 11:30 PM Well, since I'm a bit dull....I really do not know....the ones to ask are BLT, Thomas The Rhymer....and Margo....I would suggest Mollificent too...but she hasn't been around in the last month or two...Keep me posted on when you're coming and such....maybe a group of us can get together....that is if you want.. |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Margo Date: 27 Aug 01 - 02:13 PM So you'll be in the area Friday Sept 21? I can't find anything particular on the calender yet, but maybe I'll have more info by then. Did anyone mention it's a four hour drive from Portland out to Richland where the Tumbleweed festival is? Something to consider. Margo |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Amergin Date: 27 Aug 01 - 07:32 PM Well, Tumbleweed is this weekend...besides four hours ain't alll that long... So where should we do this? Pub? Park? some one's house? Wish I could host it, but I do not have the room for such a thing...and besides, I am a bit out of the way for everyone.... |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Gareth Date: 27 Aug 01 - 08:15 PM From this side of the Pond I trust that this is Portland, Oregon, USA, not Portland, Nr Weymouth, England. For reasons see these threads. I am confident that you will appreciate the appreciation that we have for the support of the new world, to sustain the spirit and traditions of the old world. E Mails to the Council saying that your Dollars will not be coming to South Dorset may have an effect, and don't forget your E-letters to the local paper viz Clicky here Gareth (and Guto) |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: GUEST,Genie Date: 03 Sep 01 - 10:43 PM NEW JAM SESSION / SONG CIRLCE Not a festival or performance, but a new jam session (in its infancy) at a new SE Portland coffeehouse: where: Yola's Foster Road Coffee House corner of SE 65th and Foster Road when: Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 PM (often going on until 4:00PM or 5:00 PM) It doesn't have to be any particular style of music, but it is acoustic and, so far, done in a song-cirlce format, with people taking turns. Having copies of music for people to play and sing with is helpful but not mandatory. This session will evolve as new people join us. Yola's is a new coffee house and they hope to do open mikes and have paid entertainment as the business gets on a firmer footing. For more info, please send email to geniesings@hotmail.com |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: blt Date: 08 Sep 01 - 02:56 AM Nice to hear about a new venue opening up, I'll check it out this Sunday or the next. Other venues of interest include the Laurelthirst Public House (2958 NE Glisan), the Snake and Weazel (1720 SE 12th), Produce Row Cafe (204 SE Oak), the White Eagle Cafe and Saloon (836 N. Russell),and the Backstage at Artichoke Music (3130 SE Hawthorne). KBOO FM (90.7) has a folk calendar every weekday morning (very early, before 7am) and Fridays between 11:00am - 12:30pm. This radio station, for those who don't know, is one of the exquisite gems of Portland, it's an amazing accomplishment to have truly public broadcasting in an era of corporate media. Another good source for folk listings is Mercury, a free newspaper that can be found on the street, in cafes, stores, and in lots of laundramats. The Oregonian and Willamette Week also print listings, but theirs tend to be edited. Just Out, the local gay and lesbian community paper (biweekly) carries information about queer folk. blt |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: GUEST,Genie Date: 08 Sep 01 - 09:25 PM Yes, KT, PP & M are at "the Schnitz." I heard it on OPB today. BLT, Thanks for the info on the other PDX jams. YOLA's Foster Road CoffeeHouse is at 6506 SE Foster Rd., and their # is 503-774-4516. I'm not positive there will be a jam there on Sept. 16 (probably will be), but there will be on the 23rd and the 30th. Genie |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: GUEST,Genie Date: 26 Sep 01 - 03:27 AM Yola's Foster Road Coffeehouse will be sponsoring ART EXHIBITS every Wednesday night, starting OCT. 3, 2001. The artist who is in charge would like GUITARISTS and other MUSICIANS to come and just hang out, jam, play for fun, etc. during the exhibits. This is not [at least for now] a paying gig. Rather, it's a place to hang out and jam and have an audience [who may or may not be paying attention to you], too. If you would like more information, please email me at geniesings@onebox.com or call Yola's. Genie |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: kimmers Date: 27 Sep 01 - 12:29 AM Now if there was only anything down here in Salem. Sigh. I keep meaning to come up and jam at Artichoke some Saturday, but things keep coming up... Anyone know any Salem, OR folkies? |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: GUEST,AKRick Date: 27 Sep 01 - 03:35 AM Amerigin I play fingerstyle guitar ... blues, british folk, jazz, singer-songwriters (Richard Thompson, Bruce Cockburn, Bert Jansch kinda tunes) and some of my own. I'll be touring the Pacific Northwest and California in October and November. I talked to Duck Baker yesterday. He and Jamie Findlay will be doing a workshop at Artichoke and a concert at St. John's on October 18th. If you love acoustic music, you gotta see these guys. Every tuesday, Terri Robb (an excellent bluesman) plays at The Rock Creek Tavern. |

Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: GUEST,Genie Date: 28 Sep 01 - 09:32 PM Amergin, I actually have signed up. Sometimes I'm just lazy or in a hurry, though. I'll get into the middle of a thread and want to post a reply and either forget to go log in or am in too much of a hurry to do it. Also, sometimes, even after I have logged in, it still comes up "guest," -- maybe because I've had to reload Netscape or something. Anyway, most of the time when you see "Guest: Genie," 'tis I (but I have noticed at least one posting from another guest called "Genie." Thanks for asking. Genie |
Subject: RE: Music in Portland, OR From: Genie Date: 10 Dec 01 - 07:37 PM The song circle that normally meets on the 3rd Sat. will meet on Dec. 22 this year, instead.
