I'm looking for the words to "A Land Where We'll Never Grow Old." Not sure of the exact title. It's an old (Appalachian?) gospel tune. It was in the play "Quilters." I recall the tune, but not all the words. Thanks for your help.

I have a tape of the song by Alfred G. Karnes. It's also in some black church hymnals... hymnals from black churches... the hymnals could be any color. I also have a recording of it by the Georgia Pals... I recorded it meself for a gospel album that I never released, based on the Georgia Pals version. I've sung the song many times at nursing homes and health care centers. Sounds mighty good when you're half paralyzed and strapped in a wheel chair...

Last summer during Old Time Week at Swannanoa Gathering, one of the girls in the dorm was having a birthday. Well, there was another girl across the hall, and she and I had already been singing through every gospel song we could think of.....so instead of Happy Birthday, we sang Never Grow Old to her. Tight harmonies, autoharp accompaniment....she was apparently very touched

'course it woulda' been a different story if we'd used a polka tempo/accompaniment!
BTW, I noticed that there are several copies of Heavenly Highway Hymns on ebay right now. T

Oh you bad girl! Now I will have to try it polka style, and it's one of our signature pieces!

Thanks all for a lot of info I've been eager to know. I like the singing of this song by the Carter Family, Alfred Karnes, Stanley Brothers. But Aretha Franklin's is unique and also interesting to me. It is in her albums, Amazing Grace, None But the Righteous, Aretha Gospel, Only a Look (with her father Rev. C.L. Franklin). Possibly her rendition was in part influenced by Clara Ward. Clara's is in Meetin' Tonight as "I Have Heard of a Land."

Heavenly Highway Hymns costs $9.95 or less new, so don't spend a fortune on the book at eBay. Good book, though.
