Joe Offer has decided that Marilyn Monroe and Alexander Graham Bell are not worthy of their own threads and combined them into a "generic" thread.

I say that Marilyn Monroe and Alexander Graham Bell have nothing to do with each other. Bell was dead before Marilyn was born.

I say they should have their own threads.

Citizens of Mudcat, what say you?

Down with censorship!

I do see your point, but where do you draw the line? If Joe had not merged the two threads would you have carried on making new ones for every famous person that had died?

I disagree with starting up copycat threads to make a point but that disagreement is less than the one I have over the move taken to combine them as I feel it does smack of a form of censorship.

As for the 2 threads, I've no interest in the MM one but I had hoped and felt that the AGB thread could have developed into one of our more interesting (to me at any rate) off topic threads.

Jon

Oh, so you can have multiple threads at Mudcat making fun of William Shatner but tributes to one the greatest inventors in history and and to one of the greatest cultural icons of the 20th century are not worthy?

Jon-I agree, as I said in the Bell thread, it is a fascinating story.

Phone Friend, you've started three related threads within just about an hour. The Bell and Monroe obituaries are very interesting, although one could question why each should have its own thread in a folk music forum. I detest the Shatner threads, and I've said a couple of times today that I thought the Aaliyah thread was stupid. However, these threads were just obnoxious and stupid, and did not appear to be the work of somebody who's trying to take us all for a ride. You're playing games, and you know damn well you're playing games.

It seems that you're trying to fight the stupidity of the Shatner and Aaliyah threads by giving us an overdose of OBITs. Fighting garbage with garbage doesn't work. You and I probably agree about what should and should not appear as threads in this Forum, but I can't accept your game-playing as a solution to the problem.

If you have more obituaries you'd like us to read this evening, feel free to post them - in the Generic Obituary Thread. If there is anyone who is squeamish about censorship, please rest assured that I did not delete a single word our guest posted - you'll find them all in the Generic Obituary thread.

-Joe Offer-

Jon Freeman,

I'm trying to understand why you feel that consolidating the threads is censorship.

How does consolidating threads prevent others from reading it, and you from discussing it? Joe didn't delete anything, he moved it. So why do you feel a discussion about the Alexander Graham Bell obit can't take place here just as easily as there?

I'm genuinely trying to see this from your side, but am having a hard time getting my head around what you are suggesting.
