Subject: RE: BS: What have you been listening to to-day From: bernil Date: 06 Sep 01 - 07:00 AM Today I've listened a lot to Gota River Jazzmen, from Gothenburg, Sweden, on the computer. I haven't got the CD I've ordered yet... They play New Orleans Jazz with influencec from Gospel and Rhythm&Blues. I didn't think I could like any kind of jazz but when I heard these guys on the radio - WOW! Berit

Subject: RE: BS: What have you been listening to to-day From: Art Thieme Date: 06 Sep 01 - 01:13 PM I've been listening to a TERRIBLY RECORDED concert by Joan Baez (with help from Michael Cooney) at the Squaw Valley Ski Resort --- 1963. (It was a California Youth Conference sponsored by the Church Of The Brethren. The tape includes talk, obviously off stage---Joan emphatically telling a workshop of sorts about a guy that she was quite taken with in New York who tosses off great songs off the top of his head like it was dandruff--Bobby Dylan. Contains Dylan stuff I'd never ever heard. And the young Michael doing "With God On Your Side". But it really is recorded terribly---on a reel-to reel recorder of Mr. Cooney's. Sound is wat too "HOT". Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: BS: What have you been listening to to-day From: MAG Date: 06 Sep 01 - 05:00 PM Missed this thread when it started as I was at the Tumbleweeds Fest (yay!) all Saturday and Sunday. Today is day off and I'm catching up. 2 CDs by HEather Alexander who was new to me at the fest. great stuff. Disc 2 of the aforementioned Fred Holstein rerelease. I can't recommend it highly enough if you like singalong. (discman while weeding. perfect day for weeding.) Hoping to squeeze in archives of last Midnight Special, since I wasn't home to listen. And of course, since I am off on a Thursday, I'll see if I can figure out how to log on to the Snog at ?4:00 Pacific Time, usa. |

Subject: RE: BS: What have you been listening to to-day From: GUEST,Hille Date: 06 Sep 01 - 06:44 PM I found out what this band are called - it's Kingsbury Manx - now, they're promoted as folk and I've tracked them down onthe web and had a listen and it's not what I'd call folk (for better or worse). What does any one else think - I thought it was shite actually: dreary and vocally lazy with no thought about vocal arrangements - in fact far from the hottest thing about to happen it sounded remarkably like stuff I heard 20 years ago. Still, what do I know! :) Cheers, Now listening to Lee Collinson (again) GREAT STUFF |
