Subject: Geoff Muldaur From: GUEST,RonU Date: 03 Sep 01 - 09:51 PM I'm a new fan of Geoff Maldaur. Does anyone have the words to "Wait til I put on my Robe", and "Some of these days" ? |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Armen Tanzerian Date: 03 Sep 01 - 10:02 PM You have great taste. I know that Wait 'Til I Put On My Robe, was something Geoff picked up from, as I recall, a gospel duo who used to sing on the streets of Los Angeles -- I may have garbled the story. But his diction on that tune is pretty clear, and the words have been used in several other songs: "Jordan River is chilly and cold, chills the body but not the soul, etc." As for the other, I can't call it to mind at the moment. I wish more people would be aware of just how great Geoff is nowadays -- better than ever, and that's saying something. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: GUEST,RonU Date: 03 Sep 01 - 10:38 PM Muldaur is my new hero. I'm going to start checking out his earlier stuff. I don't know how I've missed finding him all these years. I have trouble hearing, that's why I asked for the lyrics. Thanks for the come back. RonU |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: DonMeixner Date: 03 Sep 01 - 11:03 PM Ron, Geoff Muldaur is a great treasure. He has a wealth of if stuff you'll enjoy. Be sure to listen to his early stuff with the various jug bands he was involved with. Most notably Jim Kweskin Jug Band and maybe the Even Dozen Jug Band with John Sebastian. Don

Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Armen Tanzerian Date: 04 Sep 01 - 12:49 AM OK, from memory:
Chorus: Wait 'til I put on my robe,
1. Jordan River is chilly and cold.
2. Jordan River is deep and wide.
3. If you get there before I do,
I'm not sure the verses are in the right order, but those are the words. Geoff currently has two CDs out on Hi-Tone Records: Password and The Secret Handshake. And there, as the used to say on ZOOM, you have it. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Stefan Wirz Date: 04 Sep 01 - 05:47 AM 'Original' recording is by Clarence Clay & William Scott: The New Gospel Keys.- Prestige/Bluesville 1066 (1963) |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: dwditty Date: 04 Sep 01 - 06:12 AM Geoff did several albums with his then wife, Maria Muldaur, who was also a member of the Kweskin Jug Band (Matia D'Amato). He did 2 or 3 albums with Amos Garrett - a phenomenal guitartist (he did the solo in Midnight at the Oasis). One of my favorite all time albums is Gone Fishing that they did on Rounder Records. Both Geoff and Amos were with Paul Butterfield for 2 albums. There is always Sleepy Man Blues - a Verve recording of Geoff solo early to mid sixties. Check out Secret Handshake from 2 or 3 years ago. There is also a video available from Homespun Tapes with lessons and conversations with Geoff. Did I mention that I am also a fan? dw |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: GUEST,mag at work Date: 04 Sep 01 - 11:43 AM My favorite is still *Geoff and Maria Pottery Pie.* He was just terrific at Portland Blues Fest a couple of years ago. The woman next to me turned to me and said, "Who IS that?" |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Sorcha Date: 04 Sep 01 - 11:57 AM I don't know the song, so I don't know if these are the same as Geoff's.......these are the Cab Calloway lyrics.
SOME OF THESE DAYS
Some of these days you're gonna be so lonely,
You'll be so lonely alone without me, |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Stefan Wirz Date: 04 Sep 01 - 01:09 PM Geoff Muldaur website (by Hideki Watanabe) can be found here |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Wesley S Date: 04 Sep 01 - 04:30 PM I've been waiting to see Geoff Muldaur for about 30 years now since I heard him sing Devil Got My Woman on the Electra Blues Project record. It was pretty scary sounding to someone who had never heard the blues. He'll be in Ft Worth in early November - and I've got front row tickets. Hot Damn ! |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: LR Mole Date: 04 Sep 01 - 05:05 PM His solo turn on "Viola Lee Blues" on the Kweskin "See Reverse Side for Title" is wonderful, and rocks like crazy."Sloppy Drunk" on "Pottery Pie" (unless it's "Sweet Potatoes") is mostly the same song Taj calls "Leavin' Trunk", and so does Ry Cooder on "Boomer's Story". |
Subject: Lyr Add: Wait 'Til I Put On My Robe From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 18 Sep 05 - 05:30 PM I just heard the song Wait 'Til I Put On My Robe from Al Wilkie at the Deep Roots Music Festival His version is as follows Wait 'Til I Put On My Robe
Wait 'til I put on my robe |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: number 6 Date: 18 Sep 05 - 10:12 PM The Jim Kweskin Jug Band ... now that brings back memories. Thanks for posting this thread on Geoff Muldaur. Will definately check out his website. sIx |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Big Al Whittle Date: 19 Sep 05 - 03:23 AM can't get through to the website but like the guy who first heard his stuff on The Blues Project - mention of his name had my attention immediately. the devil got my woman and leaving here blues were amongst the tracks that had me wearing out three copies of that record - it was made of strange stiff vinyl - unlike The Beatles records which were bendy. someone was asking about DADGAD on the Davy Graham thread - Devil got my woman sounds a bit like it - certainly that haunting intro accompanied by mandoline - can be played with DADGAD |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Steve-o Date: 19 Sep 05 - 12:22 PM Someone said back in '01 that Geoff was "better than ever, and that's saying something!" Guess what?...true to this very day. I have had the great fortune to see him live many times lately here in the L.A. area (I think he must live here now), and he just stuns the crowd. And, man, he tells some wonderful stories about the "folk boom" days and all the musicians he's been friends with over the years. Go out and buy all his latest CDs- they are teriffic. You can also hear him singing and playing a bunch in John Sebastian's J-Band (another album to go out and get)! |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Wesley S Date: 20 Sep 05 - 11:06 AM Anyone interested in Geoff Muldaur needs to check out "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" a live CD recorded in Germany. Just Geoff and his Martin slothead. Wonderful stuff. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Artful Codger Date: 20 Sep 05 - 12:47 PM From his earlier years, check out "Livin' in the Sunlight", from (I believe) "Geoff Muldaur...Is Alive and Well". If you don't feel elated after hearing this song, make out your will. Cheers! |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: RangerSteve Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:24 PM His album on the Prestige label is a classic and needs to be re-issued. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Wesley S Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:46 PM I'd love to find a copy of that one. Please let me know if you see it. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Elmer Fudd Date: 21 Sep 05 - 04:52 AM He played at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley last year with Fritz Richmond, also formerly of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, and there was a line around the block an hour in advance to get in. They were as spectacular as when I first heard them in 1965 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. The crowd looked like they had probably all been there too--graying hippies. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: number 6 Date: 22 Sep 05 - 11:12 PM Does anyone know what Jim Kweskin is up to these days? I know this thread is specific to Geoff Muldaur and I do apologize. sIx |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: Wesley S Date: 22 Mar 06 - 04:48 PM A little birdie told me today that CF Martin will be offering a Geoff Muldaur signature model guitar. Pretty cool. I'm not usually one for these signature models but I'll be sure to try one of these out if I run across it. |
Subject: RE: Geoff Muldaur From: RWilhelm Date: 22 Mar 06 - 05:02 PM Jim Kweskin played in Sommerville, MA about 2 weeks ago accompanied by fiddle and bass. Still an incredible fingerpicker; still has an incredibly diverse repetoire. The most interesting thing he said is that there will be a memorial consert for Fritz Richmond, Easter Sunday, at Passim, site of the old Club 47. Included will be himself, Geoff Muldaur, Maria Muldaur, John Sebastian, and the Charles River Valley Boys. Unfortunately it is already sold out. Let's hope someone records it. |
