And when you consider the thrashing we got from the Aussies, how on earth did we beat the Germans in the first place?

Maybe we should play the Germans at cricket and the Aussies at football next time!!!

No-one gave them any credit, but the Americans joined in at half time.

2:0. Scrappy performance, though Beckham shone throughout. Albania's performance belied their bottom place in the table.

That's a bit unkind, Shambles... (2-0 to Belgium as if you didn't know. Having previous drawn to Croatia, and beaten Latvia. And the Republic of San Marino.)

Thread drift. Something occurs to me - if San Marino has a team in the competition, why doesn't the Isle of Man? It's got a far greater degree of independance than Scotland or Wales. It's not in the UK after all.

Yes it was bit unkind.

In my defence, for a number of years, I did have to listen on TV to Scottish comentators on England v Scotland games.

If you think the English comentators are biased (and they are), you should listen to the Scottish ones....

We lost our third in a row , and I don't hear anybody crying...of course, most of us didn't even notice. Well, we're not out of it yet.

Aloha,
Mark

FAO Shambles. We have to listen to English commentators with their bias ALL the time. Is it any wonder we dislike you. I was (Unfortunately) in Carlisle last Saturday and the way the English supporters were running round the the pubs you'd have thought it was 1366 and Alfie boy's troops had cheated Germany out of the world cup once again (I mean how can you defend people who chant two world wars and one world cup??????????).

Nynia.

P.S. Albania should have had a penalty. That guy was mugged by Cole when it was still 0-0.

1366?? God, it doesn't seem that long.

And BTW Shambles, shall we talk about how many ENGLISH thugs were arrested in Germany??? A few days later the Belguim authorities released an extra 2,000 match tickets to the Scottish fans because of their good behaviour. This is supposedly a music website, perhaps it may be better for it to remain that way.

This nationality thing (we were trying to stick to football) make hypocrites of us all.

Criminals are criminals, where ever they live.

Do I not remember constant references in the Scottish press to Banockburn? Now that may have been 1366?

I seem to remember too, the Wembley turf and goalposts suffering a bit from well behaved fans?

My comments here were all good humoured. If you are prepared to dish this stuff out, you should be prepared to take it too.*Smiles*

News in, via Tel, this morning.

Next summer's blockbuster will be called "5:1"

It is a Spielberg epic about the Americans beating the Germans at soccer. Some license will be taken with the facts to improve the story, but Mel Gibson will play the part of the Swedish coach who helps the plucky Americans, and Jeremy Irons will play the baddy German manager, complete with ham accent.

Couln't find that submarine film thread, or the enigma machine one.

Why this English - German thing? Wasn't it a world war and didn't it finish over fifty years ago, and weren't Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales also involved? It's crazy.
