I need the Gaelic lyrics at the beginning of Roma Downey's version of Irish Blessing found on her CD "Healing Angel." I need them for a church service on 3/18, so quickly would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you have a couple of snippets, it would help. There are several places to check if we knew for sure which one it is..........I don't have the CD.

Well, I guess I have to admit that I bought the CD. It was only a dollar in the cutout bin. I listened to it once, and didn't like it; so I put it out of the way. Now that I'd like to see it, I can't find it. Hencat, do you already have the CD? If you have it, then it's no use me looking for a CD that may or may not have lyrics in the booklet.

But in my search, I did find two other CD's I had been looking for...

Hi, MtGirl - That's a great collection of Gaelic lyrics you linked to, but I didn't find Downey's "Irish Blessing." Did I look in the wrong place?

Joe,

You probably didn't look in the wrong place. I had that link saved in my favorite places from another search I did sometime ago. I just sent it to her in hopes it might have what she was looking for. Anyway, Glad you liked the link.

Subject: Looking for a hymn title....
From: Whistleworks
Date: 08 Sep 01 - 05:09 PM

Dear Friends,

On the way to Ireland a couple weeks ago, I listened to some Phil Coulter tracks. One of these featured that "Touched by an Angel" woman, Roma Downey. The title of the track was "An Irish Blessing". Here comes the difficult part since I cannot hum this to you... Behind Ms. Downey's reading was no doubt Aoife Ni Fearraigh, one of the BEST voices that has ever come from Ireland in my opinion. She was singing this hymn and I think that the language is Gaelic. One word that kept repeating was, and I'll have to spell it phonetically, is "gentrocader" or something to that effect. If anyone would recognize this, then my next step is to get the music because like Aoife's voice, that tune was just plain beautiful.

Thanks in advance for any help that you could give me.

If no other answer comes, try a PM to Seamus Kennedy.

I didn't find exactly what you are looking for, but others more knowledgeable than I can go here! for a listen and read the lyrics. Lovely picture, too.

My dear Sorcha and others,

That is EXACTLY the piece. The hymn is a beaut, and it may be an original. But if anyone can help me put a name to this, I would really appreciate it. And for those Catters who are whistlers, this tune is in A and sounds just great on the whistle.

Thanks for your help!!!

The internet is an amazing thing. In doing a bit of research, I actually got Aoife Ni Fhearraigh's cellular phone number and called her about this tune. (That's her singing it, by the way). She says that it is an original by Phil Coulter. And, I e-mailed Phil to ask for the title. With each minute, we zero in on the answer to my question.

Never been there, but looked like Donegal to me too, alison. Hope RP gets an answer from Phil. Would be too cool.
