I am trying to find the lyrics and information on a song that some of the words are
"when I first fell in love with Jane Melissy on face she wore a pleasant little smile,
I threw my arms around and tried to kiss her but she said go away I do not like your style".
My grandfather sang this song to my mother....my mother is not with me any more and would very much like to know about this song.
Thanks much
Cindy

No luck at all with the clues you have given. Any more clues? What country are you in? Approx date your grandfather sang the song? Any more lyrics?

I'm in the USA and I don't know the exact lyrics...but he peeps through a key hole and she is putting on her golden tresses, and screws on a wooden leg. Hope that helps. My grandfather was born in 1895 so I assume it was 20 or so years after that as my mother was born in 1922. Cindy

Still no joy. Looks like we are going to have to wait for someone who knows this; the "putting on tresses/wooden leg" is vaguely familiar, but my brain cell has gone walkabout. I did a lot of Googling and Levy. Anybody??

Hi, Cindy - well, if you put wooden leg or glass eye in our Digitrad and Forum search box, you'll find some related songs to entertain you. I checked all my regular sources, and couldn't find your song.

My father used to sing part of a song that went.."She threw her cork leg in the corner, and hung her wig on the wall." There are many songs about women who are "Not all there."

The thread title needs 'adjustment'.

that's a very different, and I suppose more cheerful, version of The Unfortunate Man, Damsel of 19 Years Old, etc.
