Subject: FATHER
From: Michael in Swansea
Date: 13 Sep 01 - 08:47 AM

A friend of mine asked if I knew the words of the (Australian?) song that starts
F is for the few things that he gave us, (she thinks) it then goes through A to R spelling out FATHER.
I told her I didn't but I know someone who does.
Anyone? You've not let me down yet.

Mike

R is for the ride out to Long Bay? An Australian prison, she thinks again
The story is that father is in prison and he's coming home today, (maybe).

I'll probably see Sharon this evening, ( she's from N.Z. Why should a Kiwi want the words of an Oz song?), anyway I'll ask if she remembers any more. Be back on line Monday

I don't know the lyrics, but I HAVE heard this, and I'm pretty sure it was in a movie or TV show. I'm leaning towards movie.

Maybe someone else will get memory jogged by that, hopefully...

Saw Sharon yesterday evening, first time for two weeks. She remembered a bit more.
This is what we have so far

F is for the few things that he gave me
A is for the ale he put away
T is for the two-up school he went to
H ????
E ????
R is for the ride out to Long Bay
Put them all together they spell Father
And he's coming out of gaol today.

Any takers for H and E? Anyone know any more?

Mike

Oscar Brand has a 'naughty' version on 'Bawdy Songs Go To College' -
Mother AND Father as letters to and from a young man

M is for the Many times you made me
O is for the Other times you tried
T is for those Tawdry Frat House weekends
H is for my Hope I'd be a bride
E is for your Everlasting Passion
R is for the Ruin you've made of me
Put them all together they spell M O T H E R
And thats just what I think I'm going to be

F is for your Funny little letter
A is for the Answer to your note
T is for the Tearful Sad occasion
H is for your Hope I'll be the goat
E is for the Ease with which I made you
R is for the Rube you think I'll be
Put them all together they spell F A T H E R
But you'll never pin that label , dear on me

Pretty much what I remember, except:
(for MOTHER)
T is for those tourist cabin parties
H is for the Hell we raised inside
E is for the ease with which you made me
