Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 14 Sep 01 - 02:49 PM I am sure that everyone will be able to resist the temptation to post the lyric again; as has been pointed out, we already have it here. The "Lyr/Chords Req" header is a pre-set; there isn't an option to specify chords only. Copies of (presumably) Foster's own arrangement of his song, for voice and piano, can be seen at The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music. Here is a link to one such, published by Firth, Pond & Co., 1 Franklin Square, 1854 (can't be sure if that's the date of printing or just of copyright):
HARD TIMES COME AGAIN NO MORE. It is in E flat. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Steve in Idaho Date: 14 Sep 01 - 02:23 PM Michael B - I have the words plus a couple of other verses. But am always open to others as I manage to modify what I do to some degree or another. Peace - Steve |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Steve in Idaho Date: 14 Sep 01 - 01:44 PM Thanks - Like someone told me - "Lester Flatt never played anything but G, C, and D, his whole life." So a capo is often a nice way to make things "feel" better. The version I heard that really caught my attention was sung by Norman Blake. I'm not a fan of my voice either. My wife likes it so who else matters :-) Peace Steve |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Sorcha Date: 14 Sep 01 - 01:16 PM Mary Black and DeDannan did it in bloody E flat......capos, man, but I can't capo a fiddle! |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Sep 01 - 12:18 PM Hell Sorch, that's great. I should have pulled the thread for Norton myself.....I'm having a hard time getting back into the regular stuff. And Steve.....Yeah, the numbers are just another way. I love this song and think it SF's best ever. I like it in D because of my lousy voice, but I play C-F-G capoed on the second, because I think C "frets" better. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Sorcha Date: 14 Sep 01 - 12:02 PM I think this thread is the one spaw is talking about. Chords are in the post at 9:31...... |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: Steve in Idaho Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:58 AM OK - Thanks, I am assuming the I-IV-V is the same as G-C-D. Steve |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard times, come again no mor From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:54 AM It's a pretty basic I-IV-V and you can easily hear the changes I think. There's also a real decnt thread on this one with some additional verses and variants. Spaw |
Subject: Hard times, come again no more From: Steve in Idaho Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:48 AM I have the song from the data base and know the tune a bit - would appreciate the chords. Any key is fine as I can extrapolate to what fits my voice - Thanks Catters |
