I think this is the last post I will make regarding the coming conflict. I won't get into the rhetorical nonsense about how the conflict isn't coming, its been here for years. Or whether or not we have murdered women and children and subjucated populations for the American way.

I was against the war in Viet Nam. I actively resisted the draft. We, meaning my gang, kids my age, my generation, were being sent away to fight someone else's war with no clear objective. The US wasn't on the frontline but US guys surely were. And the people we were fighting for, not the rice planter and wood cutter, but the Tran's, and the Ngu's, the Diem's were all petty warlords and dictators who had some money and influence and heroin and hashish. And because they weren't communist we would prop them up no matter the cost. And the US government sold it to us because we were saving the little guys from the commies.

This is a different deal. This is civilians being used by other civilians to make war on still other civilians. There is no niceity of uniform or designated shores to storm. There are hidden enemies who are sworn to their misunderstanding of who their own god is to kill us all and drive us of the face of the earth. If it were some street thug who shot a person in the back of the heah from hidding I'd say "Lock him up and throw away the key." I'd say the same maybe if he shot ten people. The other cheeck is turned. But this isn't one ten or a hundred we are talking about here. Its thousand of innocent people being killed on there way to work or in the shower or having breakfast. No warning, no meet me in the street at noon. Its cowardly mass murder. And all the cheeks have been turned.

I want justice, maybe vengence, but surely justice. I have trouble knowing my twin sons are 18 and the draft is a possibility. They are men and the choice is theres how they deal with it. BUt for me, we must stop this terrorism in the world once and for all. ALL terrorism

IRA, Basque, Tamil, Israeli, Atrab, every one. Terrorism must be ended as a force on this planet or we can't go forward.

Tahts all I will ever say in this matter.

Look on the bright side. Consider Vietnam as a very poorly managed and expensive (in terms of money, lives, and national pride) aspect of the Cold War. But we did win the Cold War.

Don,
I agree with your 3rd paragraph.
"Terrorism must be ended as a force on this planet or we can't go forward."

Again, I agree. Sadly, it is highly conceivable that in order to do this, it may involve eradiciting a good portion of the planet.

Oh dear............. One question who has been financing all these terorist activities in particular who has been supporting IRA and unionist terorists for years? Is this issue going to be addressed?

I've been tempted over and over to post on these threads but have not. Now Don has said what I'm not articulate enough to say. So, thank you Don. I'll add my name to your post as well.

Chip A.
