Karen - the site is dedicated to blues and folk - the forum is a bit of a free for all - but if you glance through some of the thread titles you will see that there is a lot of music being discussed.

As a matter of fact - the seven previous postings before yours were all to music threads.

ignore what you are not interested in - post to those you are. if you don't see a music topic you are interested in - start one.

You can always go to the Forum Search and Filter, enter keywords that you might be interested in, set the date way back, and refresh threads that you have something to add to. Everyone has different tastes, and lately the taste has run to more political that musical, but it doesn't always stay that way. Hopefully you will find something that interests you, and you'll stick around.

The site is frequented by people who are in the main if not dedicated to this type of music, have an interest in it. This community is friendly and very helpful - if you have a music question, I am certain there is someone here who can provide you with the information you require. If you wish to discuss any aspect of this style of music I guarantee people will proffer their opinion. As these people chat on music, they discover that they have other similar interests and, like most people, world issues are a topic of conversation - and given that many traditional songs are records of historic events, surely its not taboo to converse on these subjects - with a like minded fellow man (or woman)?
Welcome to the Mudcat, Don't be intimidated by the wary, put off by the trolls and flamers, or mystified by the madness!

Karen's post above appears to me to be a legitamate request - at a time when it is difficult to tell just what the focus of this forum is.

Not the most mature thing to do, I know, but not feeding trolls. Ah, a classic technique. Ask a touchy, loaded and sarcastic question (if you'd actually read through some of the threads and thread titles for the last few days, you'd KNOW this was a touchy subject), get us sniping at one another, and then announce that we're all mean and you don't want to play.

Good grief.

'Catters are all real people (well, except maybe a possum or two). We are all kinds: bright and dull (not too many of those), sweet and sarcastic, easygoing and feisty. We share anecdotes and jokes as well as music, and many members feel the need to discuss important issues with each other. Karen, if you and other guests would look around through the archives, you will see some examples of how the members have come together to love and support one another through times of crisis. It is a supportive, encouraging and stimulating place. That may not be the same as "nice" in the Mr. Rogers sense of the word, but I personally would rather be interested than be around sugar-sweet people all of the time.

I came here first for music. I come here whenever I have a music question. The discussions are great but just a bonus, IMHO. Music brings us together, but even with this diverse a group it cannot occupy 100% of the discussion.

Hypersensitivity is a strategm that places one at cause without requiring that they take responsibility. This drives the sucker into coaxing nicely, "Oh please come out oh please???".

I notice that Karen of Hotmail did not in fact offer any thoughts about music herself, but seemed instead to be interested in discussing how bad this site was. And her conclusion was based on so little information, and such a tiny fraction of the available information, that it could only be the action of a dissembler or a neurotic.

Nothing wrong with someone being dull in some areas. You know most of the people who are dull in one area have great strengths in others. Some poeple may find me dull with no more of myself than you've seen here. I speak up sometimes and others I just read and enjoy. I have seen the 'community' that this site has. It is a support group for a member suffering from a heart attack, it is encouragement to go ahead and get on a stage in spite of 'nerves', it is advise on instruments. But why are we still in Karen's thread? She was leaving. Too bad. Lots of great friends to be made here.

I have noticed that a large number of discussants here make reference to songs and musicians, discuss particular songs, and discuss issues such as censorship of particular songs, within the context of many threads that seem devoted only to politics. Does Karen want to delete those too.

I enjoy music topics, I've posted the words to dozens of songs, love to talk guitars, But, I also like to communicate with people on other levels as well.
