Earlier this year Syd, landlord of the Jug in Yorkshire, forgot (due to a heart attack) to renew his licence. When he realised he could not sell beer any more he started giving it away to his regulars so as it would not go to waste. Over the next few nights he was completly out of beer so he had to close till he could renew his licence. He also ran out of coke

Well, Seamus Kennedy does a couple that come to mind. The Old Dun Cow, and another on the new CD I would have to dig up-- about what can happen when one orders American beer in the Ould Country.

A pub with No Beer

At Sidmouth in the Ham Marquee one day they didn't run out of beer. But they hadn't any glasses. The only people drinking were the ones we always sneer at for having tankards hanging from their belts.

Once upon a time, several [dozen] new year celebrations ago, the gang in our street were invited to what was billed as the final party [it wasn't---]by wee Colin at number 34. Colin was well prepared---he had a barrel of beer. Good beer too. The only fly in the ointment was, he'd forgotten that a foot pressure pump was essential in order to make our beer drinkable [primitive technology in those days]. Ah---what to do? The only pump to hand was a bicycle pump. It had to be made workable. The effect was attained by drilling a hole in the bung of a size that ALMOST was suitable to take the flexible adaptor of the pump. It was finally made operational using various tapes, elastic bands etc.. Each pint drawn meant a vigorous spell of elbow work in order to build a pressure; guess who ended up "barman"? Ach well I had my share---and we drank the lot among five of us----

Way back a long time ago, I was in Milwaukee when the Green Bay Packers won the superbowl.

Sitting in our neighborhood tavern that night, a friend and I watched as the driver from the distributor walked in, calmly disconnected the tap, and took ALL the keg beer out to the truck.

It seems they drank Green Bay dry that night, and were gathering the dregs from Milwaukee (124 miles away) to keep the party going.

Cans and bottles for the rest of the night in Milwaukee.

John

Ah, it isn't a proper Towersey unless we've drunk the pub dry by Monday lunchtime.... this year may have been our first failure, as there were so many people not there.....

I have seen members of two ladies morris teams (one London based, one Welsh) drink a Dutch bar entirely dry of gin two nights running.... no prizes for guessing which teams......

For St Patricks day last year, our band were booked to play in a hotel near Cheltenham, who had lots of Irish staying there as it was near the Cheltenham Gold Cup Horse race day.

They ordered in loads more guinness, but between our band, and our friends who we brought with us (lots) who all came along for the night... and the Irish race day goers, we drank the pub completely dry of Guinness by 10.30pm!

At one point I had 5 pints of Guinness lined up waiting, that people kept sending up to the stage for me... Now I usually can't manage more than 2 pints of the black stuff as it's like having a four course meal, and usually I go onto shorts after the two... so the lads got all my Guinness that I struggled with...

Not bad though is it... we started playing at 9pm....10.30 pub dry of guinness and we were playing on til 1am that night!

bad planning...

good night though, and the next morning there was a delivery just in time to start again for lunch time!

One bottle of beer between the four of us
Thank the Lord there isn't any more of us...

Does anyone know the rest of this song?

Bert....

The way I heard it was.

Glorious, Glorious....

.One keg o' beer for the four of us .

And glory be to god that there are no more of us .

For one of us could drink it all alone.....(damn near)..

And ended up....Here's to the Irish....dead drunk....the lucky stiffs!.

Seems to me it was the same drinking song with all the racial slurs....(Oh, the Irish eat potatoes and the French eat peas...and the g. d. dutch eat Limberger cheese...)...

I've never drunk a pub dry (Damned the bad luck) It seems the beer deliveryman does his job too well in these parts. Did clean out a pals liquor cabinet one night. Even the hangover was legendary. Kindest reguards, Neil

A Pub my friends & I used to use, one of the older Hostelries in Hull (& is well-known to Hull Folkies in search of a good session, though THIS particular lot werent Folkies) was changing Landlords....& because the rumour had gone around that the new Landlord was going to stop all the Real Ale, ruin the atmosphere, & turn it into a 'trendy' place where Lager-louts would gather, we were MOST disgusted...

We made sure that EVERYTHING even remotely saleable to the public got consumed....when the last of us (after everyone else left, late on Sunday night, there was just the 'leaving' Landlady, myself, my then g/f & another friend of ours) staggered out of there at 6 am on the Monday morning (after starting Friday night, with just brief periods to go home for food & sleep) the only liquid left in there was a 1/4 full bottle of 'Martini Bianco' which no-one would drink, & the stuff they cleaned the beer-pipes with (& I feel sure that in our drunken haze we might have sunk a pint or two of that, too....)

Ever had a week-long hangover?
