Subject: Slip Jigs and Reels From: Gillie Date: 01 Oct 01 - 02:20 PM Has any one got the words for "Slip Jigs and Reels." I think it was done by Steve Tilson. "I didn't like the ladies, the rise and the fall of their their ankles and dresses all on the dance floor." Gillie |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: Barry Finn Date: 01 Oct 01 - 06:03 PM I heard it done by the author, Steve Tilson at Old Songs Fest. & was floored, can't imagine it any better than that, I even spotted my daughter (who's not a fan of folk music) with her ears perked up. Barry |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: GUEST,Ned Ludd Date: 01 Oct 01 - 07:18 PM Steve Tilson didn't seem to think Bellamy 'murdered it' still I suppose it's a matter of taste. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: Paul from Hull Date: 01 Oct 01 - 07:22 PM Thanks Ned! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: GUEST,Ned Ludd Date: 01 Oct 01 - 07:31 PM You're entirely welcome. It's a great c.d. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: breezy Date: 02 Oct 01 - 07:39 PM P.B. was/is an acquired taste or no taste or a taste for ruining a brilliantly composed ballad but then some folk are too polite to be honest.I go with Steve's and fairport's versions way ahead of P.B.'s. love free speech. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: Martina Ryan Date: 03 Oct 01 - 12:11 PM I love Peter Bellamy's stuff, but I don't think he did a great version of this song. Especially because I've heard Barry Gleeson's version, which is amazingly good. Unfortunately, I don't expect too many of you will have ever heard BG's Path Across the Ocean CD, which is your loss! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: mousethief Date: 03 Oct 01 - 12:22 PM Also well done by Stewart at the Mouse gathering in August. CD's available soon. Alex |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Slip Jigs and Reels From: GUEST,Maritn Ryan Date: 03 Oct 01 - 12:51 PM Martina Even ignoring the name .... I agree completely! Barry does a great job on it. In Ireland the only comparable one is to see Luke Cheevers singing it live, and dancing his way through the chorus with the nearest good-looking woman! Regards |
