Subject: jodie From: GUEST,martin-christoph.just@stud.uni-hannover.de Date: 02 Oct 01 - 09:12 AM Dear people at Mudcat, I hope that you'd be willing to help me in a search for a song which has cost me a considerable amount of nerves, as I have not been able to identify it, and neither could anybody else I asked. I heard the song in question at the end of 1986/beginning of 1987 while studying in Liverpool on the radio in a folk rock program. Features: male voice, a bit hoarse, a bit fragile, like a baritone Nick Drake, very serious, downcast, only guitar for accompiment Here are some snatches of the lyrics: it begins with "tongue-tied and starry-eyed, and here I go again" the chorus goes like this: "Jodie (?), I'll show you the van Gogh-Museum and I' paint your picture on every screen" If you could help me to identify the song and the singer, or tell me who could help me do so, I'd be over the moon. Lots of thanks in advance, yours, Martin-Christoph Just > > > > >

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jodie I'll show you the Van Gogh Mu From: GUEST,Declan Date: 05 Oct 01 - 12:32 PM The song was written by Kieran Halpin a brilliant singer songwriter from Ireland who has never quite got the recognition that I think he deserves. The last I heard Kieran was living in Scotland. The song was recorded on one of Kieran's earlier albums (I think called the man who lives in bottles, but I'm not sure). These albums were recorded on the Celtic Music label ! and are I think no longer available. There is a new book of Kieran's songs published byh Maartin Alcock (of Fairport Convention) who has done a lot of duet work with Kieran. I have no idea if this song is in the book, but I suspect it is because it's definitely one of his best. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jodie I'll show you the Van Gogh Mu From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Jan 02 - 04:30 PM According to Kieran Halpin's web site, the title of this song is "Van Gogh Museum," and he wrote it in 1976 while he was living in Amsterdam, and working in Holland and Germany with Jon Strong. But the web site doesn't even tell what album it's on! Couldn't find the words, either. |

Subject: RE: Req: Jodie I'll show you the Van Gogh Museum From: GUEST,LYRIC ADD ................ 999 Date: 17 Sep 12 - 08:22 AM Kieran Halpin - Van Gogh Museum Tongue-tied and starry-eyed and here you go again You on your ceaseless search to make amends Auditions ambitions they hang on every bend You on your ceaseless search for a better friend Dark ways those cafes just where do you belong? Learn a new language and carry on Long nights and red lights and how could you go wrong? Learn a new system and move along Jody, I'll show you the Van Gogh Museum and I'll paint your picture in every scene Full moons and small rooms and plan your time ahead Sometimes you know there's nothing in your head Raised voices two choices rise or stay in bed Sometimes you feel you might be better dead Jody, I'll show you the Van Gogh Museum and I'll paint your picture in every scene He may be no dancer there may be no way He was never a chancer but if you push him he may Too used to losing but it's all in his mind Leaning on boozing he's playing for time You and I Gemini so hard to begin My odds getting longer my chances slim And mistakes and retakes lord I realize my sin I've got nothing to lose but I've got lots to win Jody, I'll show you the Van Gogh Museum and I'll paint your picture in every scene Jody, I'll show you the Van Gogh Museum and I'll paint your picture in every dream The above is from http://www.libertyeyeschool.com/aparthistory.cfm?subpage=1611051 and you can hear the authors take of the song there, too. ########################################## I need to clean-up line breaks. |
