Subject: Age of 'Old Kent Road' (fiddle tune) From: Mad Maudlin Date: 08 Oct 01 - 04:00 AM Just got a CD with a fiddle tune called "Old Kent Road". There are no liner notes, it only says it's a traditional tune. Does anybody know how old this tune is (approximately)? I would like to play it at ACW reenactments if it's period. Thanks! Subject: RE: Help: Age of 'Old Kent Road' (fiddle tune) From: Mad Maudlin Date: 08 Oct 01 - 06:53 AM I don't know the music-hall song, can't say that, sorry. All it said on the liner was "traditional". Sigh. |

Subject: RE: Help: Age of 'Old Kent Road' (fiddle tune) From: Sorcha Date: 08 Oct 01 - 10:04 AM There is a MIDI file here of the music hall tune. You can listen and decide if it's the one you want a date for. No listings at World Wide ABC index. Can't get to JC's this morning....... |
Subject: RE: Help: Age of 'Old Kent Road' (fiddle tune) From: Mad Maudlin Date: 08 Oct 01 - 10:49 AM Thanks Sorcha and Murray; the version I have here is slightly altered and a good deal faster, but it's the same tune basically. What a pity, it's out of question now...would have been a nice one for the fife, the way it is played on my CD. Oh well, better luck next time. ;-) |
