Does anyone know a good folk programme on British radio? I don't have a TV, but 'surfing' radio channels is not particularly rewarding... I'm sure there must be something on Radio 2. Can anyone recommend a good show? I like a mixture of new bands and well established acts.

Daisy

Mike Harding broadcasts on Wednesday evenings 8pm to 9pm on Radio 2. If your radio is powerful enough try Irish radio on I believe 595 metres medium wave at the following times; 10pm to 11pm on Fridays for "The Late Session" hosted by Aine Hensey; 9.30pm on Saturday nights for Ceili House followed by "Failte Isteach at 10.15 and on Sundays try 8.10am for "Mo Ceol Tu." Good luck

Daisy, I think I saw in another thread that you're in Scotland- if not others who are might like to know anyway. BBC Radio Scotland FM 92.4-94.7, MW 810 or 585: Saturdays 8.05-9.30pm 'Take the floor' mostly dance music; 10.05-12 midnight 'Travelling Folk' (a repeat from Thursday 7.05-9.05pm); Tuesday 7.05-9.05pm 'Celtic Connections', both these are more folky outlook and have interviews etc too; every weekday 2.05-4pm 'Iain Anderson' mix of folk and other music - some classical, some 'easy listening' :-( but worth having on in the background at work or whatever.

Apart from the many programmes on Irish Radio ( www.rte.ie),try Frank Hennessy's "Celtic Heartbeat" on BBC Radio Wales, Sat nights 9-11, it's also on line.Just type BBC into your search engine and you'll find it.

If you go to the RTÉ (Irish national radio network) website you can also get on to 'rnag' (Raidió na Gaeltachta) which has a lot of good traditional music. You may also be surprised to hear some new Irish-language songs.
