Subject: Casino Pop-Up, how to stop-up From: Max Tone Date: 12 Oct 01 - 05:00 PM I may run pretty close to the edge, most times, but the Casino banners/Ads rub even my gambling instincts the wrong way. Anyone else having trouble with Casino Ppppppp.....pop-Ups???????????? Is it Mudcat based, or external, like a subversive Bill Gates buck-booster?? Rob |
Subject: Casino Pop-Up??? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 12 Oct 01 - 05:03 PM What pop ups??? I've never seen pop-ups at Mudcat... Mind you... it'd be a damn good way for this place to generate a little self sustaining $$ Best thing to do with pop-ups is click your mouse pointer on the little X in the grey box on the top right corner... easy peasy puddin' and pie... |

Subject: RE: Help: Casino Pop-Up, how to stop-up From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Oct 01 - 09:22 PM There's a thread in the Help Forum that says somebody else is having the same problem. As far as I can see, it isn't caused by Mudcat. If there's a need for further discussion, please continue in the Help forum. If anyone has reason to suspect that Mudcat is causing a Mudcat user to receive popups, please post a message in the Help Forum thread. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Help: Casino Pop-Up, how to stop-up From: Clinton Hammond Date: 12 Oct 01 - 11:06 PM What's more likely is that a site these people are visiting before they come to mudcat has a background popup... a window that opens itself behind all the other windows... either that or an exit popup... so when they leave that site the popup opens... It's not like pop-up windows are running amuck on the internet, latching on to random sites like lampry... :-/ |

Subject: RE: Help: Casino Pop-Up, how to stop-up From: SeanM Date: 15 Oct 01 - 06:39 PM As much as I seriously hate pop-ups, and have stopped using a few web sites that installed them - consider that they ARE a source of revenue for the site/program that has them. As grating as they are, they're also becoming more popular as they get a higher "click through" than banner ads do. Unfortunately, by installing the 'pop up' filter, you're skewing the results of the advertising. By using it, you're telling the website that you're still using it, but that you're not supporting its advertisers in any way. The advertisers then view your visit as bumping things more towards the "this site isn't worth our ad dollar, as it has a low click through rate compared to other sites". Rather than circumventing, just boycott the site altogether. At least that way you're doing the harm immediately and in a way that's noticed, and there's a chance that the site will rethink their ad strategy. M |
