I know its not quite folk (but it will be soon!). Nevertheless, can anyone help me with the lyrics? Thanks.

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away ...

Subject: Lyr Add: YESTERDAY (Lennon/McCartney)
From: Genie
Date: 15 Oct 01 - 06:13 AM

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly I'm not half the man I used to be.
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong.
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Paul McCartney wrote this, although it is attributed to "Lennon and McCartney." He has said recently that he now thinks the lyrics were unconsciously a song about his mother, who died when he was about 13.

There soon will be, Snuffy...

But did you know that the tune was written before these words... and the working title was scrambled eggs ?

And that I've sat on Paul McCartney's bed??

*sigh*

A great song, but a folk song? As Henry Kissinger would say: By vhat theory?

Unfortunately not, Sins, you guessed! Paul's childhood home is now a National Trust property, re-done as it would have been when he lived there, and open to the public. Well worth a visit!

Earl: A folk song? Well, no not at present, as I said in my opening posting. However, there are lots of old music hall songs which are sung in folk clubs in England which you couldn't class as folk, and they usually go down very well. (I do Goodbye, Dolly Gray for instance.) Also, if one is performing for the public, one gets a great variety of requests and Yesterday has been one of them in the past (as has The Wild Rover, of course!)

Snuffy: So where can I get an arrangement for the English concertina accompaniment? I guess it wasn't originally written for it, was it!!!

Noreen: You've eaten scramled eggs with Paul McCartney on his bed? Wow! That explains a lot ... !! Yesterday love was such an easy game to play ...

I remember hearing somewhere (there, now that's an intro that's guaranteed to inspire confidence) that Yesterday had been covered more times by more artists than any song in history. Is this true, or am I (to paraphrase Dave Barry) making this up?

Aloha,
Mark

'Tis a folk song you know. Often sung by people. Not by performers, I mean.
